An exceptionally rare Beilby enamelled opaque twist marriage goblet, circa 1765The generous flared bucket bowl finely inscribed 'Health & Prosperity/ to the happy pair./ C C' in elaborate opaque white script, the reverse painted with a fruiting vine, the entwined stem issuing branches of leaves, tendrils and grapes, set on a double-series stem containing a pair of heavy opaque white spiral threads around a central gauze column, over a conical foot, 17.4cm highFootnotes:ProvenanceDarell Thompson-Schwab CollectionWhilst the identity of 'C C' or indeed 'the happy pair' to which this remarkable goblet refers remains unknown, we know that other glasses were certainly commissioned from the Beilby workshop to celebrate marriages, see for example the Surtees Marriage Glasses sold by Bonhams on 23 June 2021, lots 9-12 and the Thompson Wine Glass sold by Bonhams on 21 June 2022, lot 109.A bottle or caddy enamelled in virtually identical opaque white script with a very similar inscription reading 'How blest is the life of retirement. But yet more blest the Happy pair' on one side and 'S I To Mr Hutchinson. Stony gill. 1764' in capitals on the other, is in Torre Abbey, Torquay, illustrated by Geoffrey Wills, Antique Glass for Pleasure and Investment (1971), pl.6. A RARE QUEEN ANNE WALNUT AND ARABESQUE MARQUETRY EIGHT-DAY VERGE BRACKET CLOCK WITH PULL QUARTER REPEAT the eight inch square brass dial with wheatear border, gilt cherub's head spandrels and silvered Roman chapter ring with Arabic minute markings enclosing a matted centre with cut engraved date aperture and dished mock pendulum, the border with a strike/not strike lever fronting a substantial eight day fusee movement with six substantial ringed baluster pillars uniting the rectangular plates. Verge escapement with fine shaped and fret-cut engraved brass pendulum cock, hour strike on a single bell and pull quarter repeat on a series of six bells - the signed backplate with fine scroll leaf engraved all over decoration within a herring banded border. The rounded caddy top case with elaborate cast gilt brass folding handle above a cross grain veneered border and matching plinth base raised on leafcast shallow brass bun feet, with partly fret-cut and long glazed side panels.38.5cm high handle downThe case is in good original condition with nice colour and patina, and the movement and dial are original to the case. The gilded dial is in good condition, and the movement is complete but the fusee gut has snapped on both trains so will require attention, all bells are present and have the original verge escapement. The bell staff and hour strike bell have been replaced, there are 2 vacant holes where the original bell staff would've been attached, and no other plugged holes.
A GOOD GEORGE III MAHOGANY CADDY TOP CHEST OF DRAWERS OF SUPERB COLOUR AND PATINATION the caddy moulded top above a brushing slide and four graduated drawers fitted with brass swan-neck handles; raised on shaped bracket feet.72cm wide 45cm deep 82cm high The chest has a very good skin and polish, there are no splits to the sides or top there are small shakes in the veneer to the top, a original patched knot hole to the top, small pieces of veneer missing to the back edge. Original locks and handles. Drawer linings in oak running side ways. Original runners which have not worn to much. The carcass and drawers are stable, all of the drawer linings are original each drawer bottom has a split on the joints. Small areas of the cock beeding are missing, none are present. The bracket feet are original.

There are very minor losses to the mosaic on the back right corner of the lid and minor losses to the very stringing around the base of the box. There are also some minor losses to the mosaic work above and below the escutcheon. The lot has its original hinge and lock with a later 19th-century fitted caddy interior.
A FINE JAPANESE MEIJI PERIOD SILVER TEA CADDY DEPICTING A SEATED MONKEY WITH INFANTS realistically modelled with lift off lid and inner cover - character marks beneath.10cm high weighs 182kgThe large monkey has a dent on the top of the head, but otherwise, it is in undamaged and unrestored condition with no splits or holes.
A FINE JAPANESE MEIJI PERIOD BLACK AND GOLD LACQUER WORK TEA CADDY decorated with all over gilded land and riverscape panels in high relief set with gilt bronze figures and a water buffalo ploughing; with a gold lacquer work double lidded interior.25cm wide 17cm deep 16cm high The back of the lid has been separated and reglued, showing a fine glue joint around the edge. There is a small loss to the lacquer on the top of the lid towards the front, and both heads of the scythes are missing. There is also a small scuff to the front right canted corner. There is no other damage or restoration.
A GEORGE III INLAID SATINWOOD OVAL SHAPED TEA CADDY with crossbanded edges and branchwork inlays.16.5cm wide 9.5cm deep 11.5cm high There is a split running down the back of the caddy on the inside, not visible from the outside, the split is in line with one of the hinge screws making one of them loose. There are fine splits in the veneer to the body. The caddy has a nice colour and patina with no missing inlays. The finial from the lid is missing.
A 19TH CENTURY FIGURED MAHOGANY 6” WHEEL BAROMETER SIGNED DOLLAND, LONDON The case with caddy top and ebony string inlay fitted silvered calibrated dials and mercury glass tube95.5cm highthe barometer has its original tube, and the mercury has air bubbles, the case has been cleaned and repolished, a small piece of timber missing from the bottom, and the silvered dials and thermometer are in good condition. Minor splits to the veneer at the top.
