QIANJIANG ENAMELED AND INSCRIBED TEA CADDY WITH COVER TONGZHI MARK BUT LATER the container of cylindrical form, the body decorated on one side with a bearded scholar seated with a pile of books in a garden, the other side inscribed with 'Shi Shu Zhi Le (詩書之樂 The Joy of Poetry)', 'Jia Wu Zhong Qiu Shu Yu Chang Jiang' (甲午仲秋書於昌江 written at Changjiang in the autumn of Jiawu year), corresponding to 1894 AD, and further signed 'Xi Quan Shi Zuo' (錫泉氏作 Made by Xiquanshi), whilst the domed cover with a peach as finial painted with his attendent and inscribed 'Fang Yuan Re Fa' (仿元人法 Imitating the Yuan style), the base stamped with a four-character Tongzhi mark in iron-red(9.8cm high)Footnote: Provenance: Private English collection, Middlesbrough
A collectors' lot comprising a Victorian papier-mâché snuff box printed with a depiction of children playing cricket, a Mauchline ware treen box containing a drinking glass depicting Armagh from the west, a 1930s oak tea caddy, a wooden nut cracker, a crumb tray and brush, a carved coconut shell, two pieces of studio pottery, and a pewter covered dressing table jar (9).
A group of early 20th century Wedgwood jasperware to include a jasper bowl with diced decoration, first in a museum series no.200/500, with certificate, an American Independence Bicentennial 1776-1976 goblet, various framed and unframed wall plaques, one black basalt example commemorative of Beethoven dated 1770-1827, an American Bicentennial 1976 wall plate, a green jasperware commemorative tea caddy with Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, etc (11). CONDITION REPORT All have some age-related wear in the form of surface scratches, some slight discolouration to interior. Bowl: no obvious signs of restoration, no chips or cracks.Plaques: no chips or cracks, small ridge to top of small blue plaque.Green canister: some tiny discolouration marks to one side.
