WALNUT EIGHT DAY LONGCASE CLOCK BY JOHN BILBIE, AXBRIDGE, the 12" brass dial with moon phase and High Water at Bristol Key to the arch over subsidiary seconds dial and calendar aperture to the engraved centre, the case with quarter veneered door inlaid with a boxwood and ebony chequered line, the hood with caddy top (repairs and alterations to hood and base), paper label to interior "John Kidson, Cabinet Marker, living in Lamb Street, at the Sign of the Clock-Cafe and Star near the White Hart, without Oawford's-Gate, Bristol... printed 1759", 97" high. This clock was made between 1760 and 1767 and only a small number of John Bilbie's clocks have survived, this particular clock is fully illustrated in the Clockmakers of Somerset by A.J. Moore, pages 475 and 476
