Thomas Power Wellingborow figured walnut marquetry longcase clock, the 10" brass dial with silvered chapter, second finger and date window is housed within a caddy top hood flanked with quarter carved barleytwist pillars, the slender door with glazed lenticle and profusely inlaid throughout with exotic birds amid floral ebonized panels raised on squat bun feet 87" high.
Helston Poor Law. A collection of documents relating to base or bastard children chargeable to the Borough of Helston, comprising approximately forty "Voluntary Depositions and Examinations" of the women, "...big with a Base Child, or Children", most on the standard printed form but a few completely in manuscript, each signed by the Mayor and with the mark of the woman, and each naming the father, together with some fifteen similar Depostions made after the birth of the child, most of these in manuscript throughout but a few on forms, giving the same information also some fifteen Orders of Removal To the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Borough, for the removal of persons, some being unmarried women with bastard children, from Helston to other Boroughs and other related documents, including a Form of Commitment of Martha Caddy to the House of Correction at Bodmin for twelve months, 5th September 1820, for having had bastard children. A fine collection of Poor Law documents, the earliest Deposition being from 1775, continuing through to the 1820s. On the 11th March 1794 Susannah Tregeeg made the deposition that the Father of her unborn base child was Richard Cock, a Private of the Somersetshire militaria. Twas ever thus. (-).
An ebonised chinoiserie bracket clock, early 18th century, with caddy top and brass swing handle and four later gilt brass turned finials, above an arched glazed door with top corner spandrels enclosing 7" dial with silvered chapter ring and Roman numerals and visible pendulum disc and date aperture with strike/silent dial in the arch, mask and foliate spandrels, with later sash marked 'Thomas Hally, London', glazed side panels and arched glazed back door with double fusee hour striking movement with pull repeat, six graduated bells flanked by a larger bell, the escapement converted to anchor, foliate engraved back plate, gilt plinth, 16.5" high, 6.25" deep, 10.5" wide
A Fabulous Quality George I Burr Walnut Longcase Clock by John Cole London Circa 1725, in fine original order. The eight day movement having a bell striking the hour and a 12 inch (30 cm) brass dial with a fly back lunar calendar in the arch above engraved bands of birds amongst undulating foliage and, signs of the Zodiac incorporating a month and date aperture to the centre and maker's plaque signed John Cole London. The silvered chapter ring encompassing a matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring and wedge shaped aperture displaying the days of the week and decorative engraving. The spandrels cast with face masks amidst a mass of lacey foliated scrollwork. The richly patinated case with a caddy top surmounted by brass spired-globe finials and. incorporating fretted panels of scrolling foliage with integral corninthian columns to the door. The long trunk door below with a shaped arch top and moulded edge inlaid with feather & cross-banding reflected on the moulded base. Standing 106 ins (270 cms) in height.
Mid 19th century Canton 2-handled vase, of square baluster form, typically painted in famille rose palette with figures of birds and flowers, 22cm high, together with a Chinese export porcelain tea caddy and cover, circa 1800, of flattened oblong form, painted 'en grisaille' with floral bouquets, the domed cover damaged, neck broken and restuck, 12.8cm high and a Qianlong porcelain mug, painted in famille rose palette with figures within underglazed decorated borders, cracked and chipped, 13.5cm high (3)
