A Victorian papier-mâché tea caddy, with painted gilt decoration, internally with two compartments with mother of pearl handles, the lid with painted scene depicting Cambridge University, 13cm high, 12cm deep, 21.5cm wideCondition report: The hinges are broken and in need of replacement. Rubbing, losses and wear to gilding and painted decoration. The decoration to the lid with cracking, degradation and losses. Chips, knocks and losses to edges. Craquelure to lacquer. The interior foil has worn away, with dust and dirt within the compartments. In need of some attention, but a nicely decorated little piece.
A lacquered tea caddy, early-mid 19th century, the hinged lid enclosing two lidded compartments, raised on squat bracket feet, painted all-over with an Italianate landscape, 25cm wide, 18cm deep, 14cm highCondition report: The lid broken and repaired. Surface wear, scratches and rubbing to paint. Small break, loss and repair above escutcheon. Some wear to interior. Hinges ok. Small chips and losses. General wear commensurate with age.
An Indian brass caddy, sarcophagus shape, the domed cover surmounted by a lion, the sides chased and embossed with Indian landscape panels, shields engraved "Presented to B.J.K. Hallowest Esq, I.C.S/ Deputy Commissioner/ Gonda" and "By Bhaya Latbux Singh, Taluqdar of Majhgawan & Basti Hajijot/ Dated February 3rd 1931", width 34cm; together with an Indian Benares brass tray profusely worked, width 77cm; and a brass spittoon, cast with peacock design border, 14cm.
