Description: A large scarce Chinese Export carved tea caddy box with fitted pewter liner and lid. The box decorated with panels of deeply carved relief scenes of figures and animals in landscapes flanked by floral borders, as well as a large cicada-like moth surrounding the front key lock. The blond wood trimmed with black lacquered(?) trim. An extensively embellished pewter inner box liner and lid with an engraved front panel of ?lovers? in a landscape?; the remaining three sides depicting birds and flowers The similarly decorated lid with engraved bats and flower. A 12-character circular mark impressed in the pewter of the bottom and inner lid. Size: Height 7 1/2 inches 18 1/8 cm Width 10 inches 25 1/2 cm Provenance: From a Montreal estateCondition: The top wood panel has some slight splitting and losses. The front wood panel has a loss on the hand of a figure and the cord tied to the bulls mouth. The left side panel in overall good shape. Right side panel is in overall good shape. The rear panel has only minor loss to hand of one figure. The lock to the box has been removed. There is an old label to the interior which is not in English (Swedish???)The pewter box has some scratching to the surface cause by insertion and removal of wooden container and a few other scratches and areas of wear commensurate with age. Marked to the bottom of the lid and the bottom of the vessel. PLEASE REQUEST ADDITIONAL PHOTOS OR A CONDITION REPORT AS NEEDED.
