A RARE GEORGE III NAVETTE-FORM CURLED OR QUILLED PAPER FILIGREE-DECORATED TEA CADDY, the hinged cover having an ebony and satinwood chequer-strung edge, enclosing an inlaid compartment lid inscribed beneath "F.S./from Mr Whincopp/ Feb 14 1874", (probably a replacement), the body decorated with swags, foliate pendants, palmettes and medallions, one oval, one circular, each retaining traces of their painted silk backing, the latter with initials HC in cursive script, the whole retaining some gilding and crushed glass infill, 19cm x 9.5cm x 12cm (excluding handles), (7.5in x 3.7in x 4.7in)
