An 18th century 30-hour, Liege oak longcase clock, brass and steel dial, signed to the arch 'Repare par D D J Lambermont a Liege', with alarm dial, 247 cm high.Provenance: The contents of The Birches, Kingston-upon-ThamesPendulum and single-weight present.The posted movement seems to run through when tension is applied to the chains but I can not vouch for its reliability or accuracy, the dial shows some signs of being removed and refixed, and the pendulum suspension spring has been adapted.I don't think this movement and case started life together and would suggest that the clock is a marriage albeit a decorative one and its components come from the late 18th century, I have tried to find the name in Loomes/ G.H Baillie's Watchmakers of the world but nothing was found.To sum up the clock has seen some adaptation and is not a purist's piece and I think it would be safe to suggest this will need work to make good .

Some scuffs and marks to the outer case, notably to the bottom rail, at the sides and front. The removable front cover is perspex rather than glass, but is original. Some brass polish residue in the edges of the glass. Movement runs for the short period of time we have tested it for - not able to confirm accuracy over a longer period. Further Details: wear to case, chip to domed top, chips and nibbles to casing edges, scratching and fading/staining in places, cracking/splitting in places, the stylised panels to sides have split, fraying, holes and one badly damaged to fabric backing and broken parts to wood.

Iden to the vendors grandfather in 1942. Further accompanied by a letter from Iden offering to buy it back again in 1944.Thomas Tompion, London The rising hood with later, pre-numbered carved cresting over long glazed side panels, spirally twisted front columns, convex throat moulding and long (41.5 inch) door inlaid with two geometric stars framed by inlaid corner pieces and a half-round moulded edge, all centred by an unusual octagonal lenticle, over a matching base with stellar inlay to a plain plinth. The 10 inch square brass dial with a single line border enclosing the winged cherubs head spandrels and narrow silvered chapter ring with Arabic minute track, narrow Roman hours and an inner quarter-hour track, the finely matted centre with narrow Arabic seconds ring and chamfered date aperture, and three blued steel hands. Signed along the lower edge Thomas Tompion Londini fecit. Mounted to the movement via four latched dial feet. The eight day weight-driven movement with thick plates united by six knopped and ringed latched pillars, the going train with anchor escapement, the striking train with inside countwheel and detent striking on the deep bell above. The backplate with shaped aperture for the anchor and long steel crutch, the pendulum suspended from a shaped tapering cock. A very rare late 19th century French carriage clock with mechanical snuffer, almost certainly for use in the auction process of 'Selling by the Candle'B.H.J. & Cie, No. 7112The case surmounted by a facetted Greek-key handle over an oval bevelled escapement observation window, a repeat button to the front and sprung candle and mechanical snuffer to the back, connected to levers linked to the motion work behind the dial, above the moulded cornice and four glass panels within rounded pillars, on a double stepped base. The Arabic and Roman white enamel dial with blued steel spade hands above two smaller subsidiary Arabic dials, the left marked Boug(i)e, the right marked Reveil all set in a gilt brass mask. The triple spring barrel movement with silvered and jewelled English lever platform escapement, the backplate marked B.H.J.&Cie B above the company's shield and the number 7112. Breguet No. 759. A very fine silver hump-backed carriage clock with perpetual calendar, moonphase, grande sonnerie striking and alarm, sold to Ettore Bugatti in 1931. In the original fitted box, with certificate No. 3278Breguet, Paris, number 759The silver hump back case surmounted by the original chain link handle, over a repeat button and solid sides, the rear door opening with a secret screw system released only by the winding key, raised on button feet. The silver engine turned dial with outer dotted minute band (with slightly larger to mark every five minutes) framing the Roman numerals and finely engine turned centre; just below XII sits the subsidiary dial for running seconds (marked in Arabic quarters and again with the dotted band) over an alarm-setting dial (titled on a gold plaque) at III; the moon's age given on a subsidiary dial at IX, via a gold and blued steel rolling moon disc set over an engraved cloudy sky. With fine blued steel hands throughout. All set within a finely engine turned gilt mask with two applied gold signature plaques Breguet and No. 759 above four rectangular apertures offering the day (in French), date, month and year. The eight day movement wound through the rear panel (each winding aperture protected by a gilt ball stopper, one polished, the other matted joined by a gilt chain), with frosted gilt arched plates and highly polished steel work. A blued steel selection lever allows the owner to choose between full grande sonnerie striking (i.e. the hours and quarters announced on a pair of gongs every fifteen minutes); petite sonnerie (just each quarter announced every fifteen minutes) or silence. The quarters and hours struck on a pair of polished steel gongs, the alarm is struck on a third shaped steel gong. The escapement with fine quality cut and compensated bimetallic balance to a jewelled lever escapement. Ticking, striking and repeating. Together with the original fitted travel case with gilt-tooled edges and turnbuckle catches to the side, the front door with sliding cover that allows the dial to be either protected or revealed during transit; the interior fitted to accommodate the hand setting and winding key, the latter ingeniously mounted with a pair of steel pins in the handle to allow the rear door to be opened. 15.5cms (6.25ins) high. The 7.5inch arched brass dial with silvered tune selection arc numbered 1-6 over twin subsidiaries for strike/silent and chime/silent, Roman and Arabic chapter ring, scroll and flower spandrels and a matted centre with mock pendulum aperture, chamfered date aperture and blued steel hands. The large movement with heavy knopped pillars, verge escapement, rack striking on a large bell, chiming the quarters and playing a tune on the hour on the 26 hammers and 17 bells via a 16.5cms (6.5ins) long pinned barrel running across the back of the movement. The 4 inch gilt Roman dial with engraved flowerhead half hour markers emanating from the decorated centre and framed by a running border and engraved sight ring, with blued steel moon hands. The substantial twin chain fusee movement with maintaining power to the going train, terminating in a jewelled English lever platform escapement with a robust cut and compensated bi-metallic balance sounding the hours and quarters on a pair of long blued steel gongs, the backplate signed and set with a steel hand for strike/silent. The front door applied to the inside with the original Iden Collection label, numbered 1817 and signed ETHERINGTON. The 7 inch square brass dial with engraved acanthus leaf border and upper spandrels framing the silver subsidiary arcs for rise-and-fall regulation and strike/not strike, the lower silver winged cherub spandrels framing the silver Roman and Arabic chapter ring, the matted centre with chamfered mock pendulum aperture and blued steel hands. The twin gut fusee movement united by five knopped and finned pillars, with pivoted verge escapement (with later fancy apron), rack striking on a bell and pull quarter repeat on three bells and hammers, the backplate deliberately larger and with single line border framing the symmetrical pattern of foliate scrolls centred by a wheatear oval cartouche signed Geo Etherington London.
