An unusual George III 8-day longcase clock with alarum, 12in. arched, silvered dial signed Plowman, Chichester, with subsidiary date and seconds dials, moon phases to arch, movement striking on a bell, movement with separate alarum train controlling strike, mahogany case with three brass pommel finials, trunk door with ebony stringing, with weights and pendulum, 7ft. 2in.
An early 20th century chiming oak long case clock with a square hood, carved roundel frieze and blind fretwork to the door and base terminating on bun feet. The silvered dial has a Roman chapter and an outer minute Arabic ring. Samuel Marti, a French boulle-cased mantel clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a gong, with a Brocot regulation adjustment to the pendulum, the backplate stamped with the trademark of S. Marti, Paris along with the serial number 106, the round cream dial with black Arabic numerals and decorative brass hands, the shaped boullework case of red tortoiseshell inlaid with brass decoration and having gilt-metal cast mounts, height 39.5 cms.* Biography; Samuel Marti was one of the prolific French makers of the 1800's and was known to be working circa 1860 at Le Pays de Montbeliard, Paris making roulant blancs. Along with Japy frères and Roux they set up a business in 1863 to market their movements to such firms as L'Epee. Their Paris address was Rue Vieille-du-Temple from 1870.

Delepine-Canchy, an ormolu mantel clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with the backplate stamped with the trademark for Delepine, the name Pons within a roundel and dated 1827 (see note below) along with the serial number 783, and retailer's name Deniere à Paris, the round white enamel dial having black Roman hour numerals and blued steel spade hands, the decorative ormolu case with ormolu floral and c-scroll mounts with a silvered figure of a cherub sat to the front holding a wine goblet and bunch of grapes, height 35 cms.* Biography Delepine-Canchy of Saint-Nicolas-d'Aliermont took over the movement making business of Honore Pons in circa 1846 before becoming Delepine-Barrois, supplying movements to amongst others Henri Jacot. They continued to use the Pons trademark stamp which shows the award in 1827 of a gold medal. They were themselves taken over by their near neighbours in the town, Couaillet frères, in circa 1913, headed by Armand Couaillet.

Stephen Crunn, Haverfordwest, a chiming mahogany longcase clock: the flat-top mahogany case with inlaid oval decoration either side of the arch to the hood, with ebony and boxwood stringing to the trunk door and base, the fluted pillars to the hood with cast-brass capitals, the later associated eight-day duration Victorian movement striking the hours on a gong and the quarters on four bells, the twelve-inch flat brass break-arch dial having engraved black Roman hour numerals, Arabic outer five-minute numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture and engraved to the centre with floral decoration and the name Stephen Crunn, Haverfordwest, with engraved decoration to the four corners and arch, depicting a bird above a ribbon engraved with the Latin motto Tempus Fugit, with two subsidiary dials to the lower part of the dial for strike/silent and chime/silent, height 216 cms.* Biography Stephen Crunn is recorded as working at Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire in the 19th century.

Jennens, Skinner Street, London, a chiming longcase clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a large tube gong and the quarters on a further eight large tubes, the thirteen-and-a-half brass break-arch dial profusely engraved with rococo and floral decoration, having a raised chapter ring engraved with black Arabic numerals, with a subsidiary seconds dial and two further dials to the arch for 'Strike/Silent and 'St Michael Chimes/ Westminster Chimes/ Whittington Chimes', engraved J. Jennens, Skinner Street, London,with three brass bound weights, the mahogany case having chequered cross-banding to the hood, trunk and base, the shaped glazed trunk door with applied mahogany moulding and decoration, with applied ebonised ball moulding to the shallow arch, height 228 cms.
Obren, Croscombe, a Georgian wooden dialled wall clock: the eight-day duration, single-fusee movement having A-shaped frames and an anchor escapement, the fourteen-inch round wooden dial painted with black Roman hour numerals, Arabic twenty-four hour inner numerals and the maker's name Obren, Croscombe, with blued steel spade hands, the minute hand with counter-weight, and having a heavy cast brass 'Georgian' bezel, the mahogany case having a turned surround with the backbox having a shaped top to the backboard, diameter: 45 cms.* Biography John Obren is recorded as working in Shepton Mallet in circa 1850 having moved from Croscombe, Somerset where it is reported that from 1824 until 1841 he cleaned and repaired the clock, being paid 5-0 in 1830.

Richard Chater, London, a pad-top late-Georgian bracket clock: the eight-day duration, double-fusee movement with anchor escapement, border engraving to the backplate and striking the hours on a bell, the silvered brass break-arch dial engraved with black Roman numerals, a strike/silent dial to the arch and the maker's name to the centre Richd Chater, London, with blued steel spade hands, the break-arch mahogany case having a cast brass handle to the top of the brass bound pad, fishscale frets to the sides and standing on brass bracket feet, height 40 cms.* Biography Two Richard Chater's are recorded as working in London in the late Georgian period, the first apprenticed in 1774, free of the Clockmaker's Company in 1781 and died in 1811, the second working from circa 1785, being the son of James Chater.

Thomas Hully, London and Edward Foster, Carlisle, a marquetry longcase clock: the eight-day duration, weight-driven movement now striking the hours on a gong, the break-arch brass dial having a raised chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals and fleur-de-lys half-hour markings, with engraved decoration and signed within a scroll Edward Foster, Carlisle, with cast brass 'female-head' spandrels, the arch having a round brass boss engraved with the name Thomas Hully,London, with decoration blued steel hands, the walnut case inlaid with floral marquetry decoration to the trunk door and base, with barley-twist columns to the hood, a caddy top and standing on bracket feet, height 225cms.* Biography Edward Foster was a member of a prominent clockmaking family whose members worked in Carlisle, Whitehaven and London. Edward was born in circa 1727, married in circa 1754 and died in 1809 and was recorded as being 'an outstanding maker' whose sons John, Henry, Thomas, William and Richard also became clockmakers, as did grandsons Robert, Thomas and William, the latter moving to London where he died in 1830. A number of fine longcase clocks are known signed either E. or Edward Foster and often without seconds dials.*Notes Exhibited. Leeds City Art Gallery, 1930.
