William Summerhayes of Taunton - 8-day mahogany longcase clock c1850, crested pediment with a ball and spire finial, wavy-edged break arch door flanked by rope twist pilasters and matching recessed pilasters to the trunk, with a short flat topped trunk door, square plinth with applied skirting, fully painted dial with Roman numerals and a rare depiction of an early steam train to the break arch, subsidiary calendar aperture and seconds dial with matching stamped brass hands, rack striking movement striking the hours on a bell. With pendulum and weights. Passenger Steam Trains were introduced in the 1820s and images were soon reproduced on many domestic artefacts of the period.
