A late Victorian oak cased bracket clock with eight day triple fusee movement chiming quarters on four gongs and eight bells, and striking hours on a large gong, the brass arched dial with chime/silent, slow/fast and chime selection subsidiary dials above a silvered chapter ring with Roman hour numerals, framing a matt centre applied with a silvered plaque inscribed `W. Lister & Sons, Newcastle on Tyne`, all framed by cast and pierced gilt scroll spandrels, the case top carved with a mask and foliate scrolls above further lions masks, herm columns and flowers in relief, flanked by a pair of carved and pierced mask and scroll fret panels, on a breakfront base and bracket feet, height approx 66cm, with pendulum and winding key, together with matching oak wall bracket with similarly carved decoration and applied brass presentation plaque. Provenance: this clock was presented to the late Lord Morley in 1895 as an appreciation of his services whilst representing Newcastle-on-Tyne in parliament.
