A MID-19TH CENTURY ROSEWOOD LIBRARY CLOCK, OF SMALL PROPORTIONS, BY MUSTON & GATH, LONDON & BRISTOL, of rectangular form, bevelled glass panels to the sides and glazed front, above ogee moulding on a plinth base, enclosing a signed 3½-inch rectangular silvered engraved dial with Roman numerals and fronting a substantial eight-day spring driven fusee movement with anchor escapement. 22cm high CONDITION REPORTIt is wire wound and there is no visible sign of a chain, the wooded case has two circular marks on the top each with a central dowel perhaps where there had once been a handle. There is a key to the case and to the mechanism, the clock appears not to be working
A 19TH CENTURY FRENCH GILT-METAL MOUNTED BOULLE MANTEL CLOCK, the waisted case decorated with scrolling foliate brasswork, the two-train movement signed 'Miroy-Requier & Co / Paris London', with key. 33cm high Note: Ernest Miroy the second son of Jean-Baptiste Marie Miroy, married Josephine Requier and moved to London with his cousin Adolph Victor Miroy in 1860, where he traded under the name Miroy-Requier. Both branches of the Miroy Frères were clockmakers and bronziers, and the side remaining in France ran their business from 10 Rue d'Angouleme, Paris. Britten (p. 543) records Miroy & Co at New Earl Street, 1856-71, Miroy-Requier at the same address in 1871, and Miroy-Requier at Queen Victoria Street in 1875. CONDITION REPORTA few snags in the brass ware but overall good condition commensurate with age, has not been tested for time keeping, it has a pendulum, key etc
