1977 Morgan +8 Sports Lightweight 19/19Chassis no. R8186Odometer reading: 12,387MOT: Exempt*Low mileage Plus 8 Lightweight*Number 19 of 19*4-speed manual gearbox*Owned by John McLaren (brother of Bruce) To view a video of this lot please click hereFootnotes:A beautiful 2-seater open tourer, the Morgan Plus 8 offers subtle, elegant styling but with a hidden gem under the bonnet – the 3.5-litre Rover V8. This partnership between Rover and Morgan was largely a result of Peter Wilkes (director of Rover) attempting to purchase Morgan off of Peter Morgan. He politely declined, however the meeting did result in an agreement for the supply of the then new Rover V8 to be fitted in the new Plus 8. This 1977 Plus 8 is a very special Sports Lightweight model that is presented in a beautiful Opalescent Silver with contrasting Gunmetal grey colour scheme. Originally owned by John McLaren (brother of Bruce McLaren), this example is number 19 of just 19 Lightweights built between 1976 and 1977. The Lightweight Plus 8s are incredibly rare, and they are known for their all-aluminium bodywork handcrafted from the factory. A resident of Guernsey, John McLaren imported the car to the island and it has never left since the day it arrived (this is justified by the low mileage of just 12,387 miles). John was also known to have the radiator cowl plated in chrome, and it is known to have had three owners in total. Overall the car is in good condition, and this is a rare and low mileage example of a Plus 8. Comes with a dust cover and a clock made from it's original steering wheel.Vendor Score Total: 60/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH.
