A rare Tournai Chelsea-decorated clock case, c.1760-65, modelled with Cupid above a sleeping maiden, watched by a figure draped in a yellow robe, the rococo scrolling picked out in puce, gilt and turquoise scrolls, gold anchor mark, some small restorations, 25.5cm.Cf. The Metropolitan Museum, Accession No. 54.147.28 for the same model.There were strong links between the Belgian Tournai factory and the Chelsea factory in London, with modellers and decorators working at both concerns and influencing shape and decoration in each place. It is possible that some Tournai pieces, brought to London perhaps as inspiration, were decorated at Chelsea. The colours on this piece being more typical of the London concern.
A WWI aircraft brass cockpit clock holder, with beveled glass window, the front released by a spring button, the back marked "AP302", diameter 4½". GC, the clock was designed to be easily removed because if a pilot had to make a forced landing and returned without it he received a fine. £60-80
