A good early 18th century 8-day longcase clock, 12 x 16 inch arched brass dial, wheatear engraving to outer perimeter, applied, silvered chapter ring engraved for the maker James Beckett, Dover (listed by Loomes as working 1720 - 1721), seconds ring, cast spandrels and unusual crest to arch, matched steel hands, 8-day internal countwheel bell striking movement, 5 ringed and finned pillars, oak case has been carved later, retains shell inlay to trunk door, with key, pendulum and 2 cast-iron weights, 210cm tall.
A small Eastern style desk or mantel clock, white enamel dial with Roman numerals, signed M.D.Ger with hour and half-past strike on a bell, centre seconds indication and alarm function, the case flanked on four corners with columns, ball finials and surmounted by a dome and spire, having profuse decoration in multi-coloured champlevé enamel, side panels have enamel panels showing ladies in period costume, height 25cm.Clock case is in reasonable condition with some areas of enamel loss to the top of the dome where the finial screws down, damage to the bevelled glass at front bottom left hand corner, the clock does not run in that the time train winds but there is no activity in the escapement, balance wheels appears to move freely, the strike train operates when the hands are moved around and the alarm seems to function. The bell has become loose from the backplate of the movement but is just a press/friction fit. Clock will require a service for operation.
