JEAN DINH VAN - a 1970's French silver watch designed for Lip, signed to the dial and stamped STERLING SILVER 925 and numbered 22423 to reverse of watch head, with additional French control marks to the hinged bangle, the silvered circular dial with dot numerals to a polished rectangular surround, with neatly hinged bangle Width of watch head 2cm Lip was founded in 1867 at Besancon, a location central to the French clock making industry. During the 1970's they commissioned artists, designers and jewellers to style their watches which have subsequently become highly collectable. Jean Dinh Van worked at Cartier in the 1950s and 60s and in 1975 designed three silver watches with a silver armlet for Lip. Literature: Auschitzky Coustans, Marie-Pia Lip, des heures à conter. 2000 Doensen, Pieter Watch: Modern Wristwatch Design 1950-1983. 1994.

The case having a caddy top surmounted with a brass handle, the door incorporating fretted brass panels to the corners above the arched glazed door. 17¾ ins (45 cms) in height, 10¼ ins (26 cms) wide, 6½ ins (16½ cms) deep.

The dial bordering an engraved centre of tulips housing a subsidiary seconds dial and the inscription John Ebsworth in New Cheap Side, Londini, Fecit. The bell top enclosed by four finials and straps beside four pierced and engraved brass pediments. The sides bearing two protruding wings that house the anchor swing pendulum, measuring 16 ins (41 cms) high, 12 ins (30 cms) wide, 7 ins (18 cms) depth.

Haden Roruley ? encircling a matted centre with scrolling gilt spandrels adorning the corners. The hood with a moulded cornice and inlaid banding to the door flanked by turned integral columns. The case having a long break arch-topped trunk door cross-banded in mahogany, inlaid with stringing and edged in reeded moulding. Standing on a moulded plinth base 79 ins (201 cms) high.

A 30 Hour Oak Longcase Clock. The 9¾ inch (25 cm) square brass dial with a silvered chapter ring signed Abdell Richmond encircling a matted centre with single handle and a calendar aperture. The corners embellished with pierced brass spandrels. The hood having a moulded cornice above a blind-fret carved frieze and integral columns flanking the glazed door. The case having a long trunk door with shaped top. 75¾ ins (190 cms) in height.

A Rare 18th Century Tortoiseshell Grandmother Clock. The 8 inch (20.5 cm) square brass dial having a silvered chapter ring engraved James Whittaker and bordering the floral engraved centre with calendar aperture. The corners adorned with pierced brass cherub head spandrels. The hood having a moulded cornice above the glazed door flanked by two barley-twist columns. The unusual tortoiseshell case having a long trunk door with applied moulding and a circular pendulum aperture, raised on a stepped box plinth. 70 ins (178 cms) high, 14 ins (36 cms) wide, 9¾ ins (25 cms) depth.
