19th century 8 day longcase clock with painted arched lunar dial with strawberry spandrels in mahogany case, pendulum and weights present, 238cm highCondition report: General overall condition very good, movement appears to be in working order although we have not had it going. Dial is very clean. Case is good, some veneer missing and areas lifting, hood door pillar capitals are damaged.
18th century oak longcase clock with brass and silvered square dial signed Thomas Evans, Bontuchel, pendulum and two weights present, 220cm highCondition report: General overall condition very good, movement is clean and appears to be in working order, dial is good, some marks to silvering on chapter ring, brass work is dirty. Case is very good, some minor scuffing to left hand side panel and front panel of plinth has small split. Hood good, top corner finials missing.

This portrait is featured on Page 49 (Plate 1) of ‘Edward John Dent and his Successors’, by Vaudrey Mercer.Richard Rippon was the cousin of Edward John Dent, the celebrated chronometer and clockmaker responsible for building the largest and most accurate public clock in the world known as Big Ben. Dent learnt his skills as a maker of watches and clocks at the beginning of his career from Richard Rippon, who was an expert watchmaker.Following his death Elizabeth Rippon married Edward John Dent – the founder of E. Dent & Co Ltd. His stepson Frederick William (Rippon) Dent completed the construction of Big Ben.Additional InformationVerso there is a label for 'Conservation Matters' dated 2002/3. Tears to the canvas were carried out by Richard Watkins and the painting was relined onto linen. The frame was conserved by Yvonne Jarzebowska. (Please see images of this label)The painting has some craqueleur, some edge wear, a small white paint spot to the lower right and a small chip to the lower left. The right ear of the sitter may also have some later painting.

It’s pendulum but no key. The dial has some chips at winding apertures and a nick below XII, three hair line cracks also and some scratches. The figure to the top has a poorly repaired break to the neck, a glue repaired break to the left arm and also to the left foot, lacking lyre. Figure is also slightly loose and grubby throughout. Metal plateau to the top of the clock is loose and the clock is grubby throughout. Some small chips and losses to the case.
JAMES WOOD OF LONDON; a fine George III ebonised bracket clock, the swing brass handle above arched silvered dial inscribed 'Song, Paddy Wack/Cotillion/Changes', with a triple fusee movement striking on eight graduated bells beside a further bell with floral engraved back plate and raised on scrolling ormolu feet, height 55cm, width 33cm.Additional InformationThe ormolu feet are later editions, they do not quite fit correctly and one of the feet is detached but present. Above the arched dial there is a small section of the ebony which has split and been re-glued. The pendulum feather is snapped but the pendulum is present. Further splits to the ebony veneer in some areas. We have the key for the case. It is sold with associated modern painted bracket.
