A French Second Empire Sienna marble mantel clock, 11.5cm enamel dial inscribed with Roman numerals, Breguet hands, 14-day movement striking on a bell, the backplate signed C de Touche, 228 R(ue) St. Martin 230, No. 25923, arched case, ropetwist and lotus bezel, tall moulded plinth base, 42cm high, c. 1860The maker, Chev. Constantin-Louis Detouche (1810-1889) was one of the most important mid-19th century clockmakers in France. He took over his father's business, founded in 1803, in the mid-1830s and made many horological improvements, and between 1845-and 1859 was joined as chef d'atelier by the renowned mechanician Jacques-Francois Houdin. In the 1860s he was appointed clockmaker to Emperor Napoleon III. During theThird Republic, his firm also retailed clocks, especially those by Japy Freres.For his efforts he was made a Knight of the Danish Order iof the Dannebrog and a Chevalier of the Legion d'Honneur.

A Regency oak longcase clock, arched painted dial with bucolic scene of a shepherdess with child, seated in a landscape with a farmhouse, Arabic chapter, date aperture, thirty-hour movement striking on a bell, signed John Hallam/Nottingham, floral spandrels, the hood with swan neck cornice, free standing pilasters, shaped door, canted angles, skirted base 210.8cm high.John Hallam was working at Nottingham from the 1790s until 1820 when he was in partnership with his brother Thomas although Thomas went his own way after 1828. His sister married Nottingham maker John Stevenson and Hallam took their son William (1791-1881) as an apprentice 1805-1812. Stevenson eventually took the business over and transferred to Derby in 1841, retiring in 1855.
A 19th century oak cased longcase clock, the hood with turned pilasters, the dial with pierced brass mask decorated spandrels, silvered chapter ring, subsidiary date and seconds dial and makers name William Newman Norwich. The case with reeded angled pilasters above a plinth base and ogee bracket feet. 78ins. Est £200-300
