Won by Bugler H. Arkell, 1885" Major (later Colonel) Richard Rogers was a local dental surgeon, and Commanding Officer of the 1st Gloucester Royal Engineer Volunteers, receiving the Volunteer Decoration. He was an Alderman of the Borough and later Mayor on several occasions.
