Cartier, a silver, gold and onyx mounted desk clock, perpetual calendar and weather station, import mark for London 1912, each of the four sides with a dial and a gold bezel, comprising: a clock, movement no. 2172, silvered dial, Roman numerals, skeleton hands; a thermometer in Fahrenheit; a barometer; and a perpetual calendar; with an onyx stem to a decagonal base, presentation engraved Ludwig. Alfred. Henry. P. W. Cushion from Lord Melchett with affection and appreciation of his loyal devoted service 1900 - 1945, 11.5cm (4 1/2in) high, with an associated leather travel case and card boxAlfred Moritz Mond (1868 - 1930) was a British industrialist, financier and Liberal Member of Parliament from 1906 - 1910, and was raised to the peerage in 1928 as Baron Melchett. His son Henry (1898-1949) was a director in the family businesses, as well as being a Liberal Member of Parilament in the early 1920s. In 1929, having moved to the Conservative Party, Henry became the Conservative Member of Parliament for Liverpool Toxteth East from 1929 - 1930, when he was elevated to the House of Lords becoming the 2nd Baron Melchett. This Cartier desk weather station was given as personal gift by Henry Mond, the 2nd Baron Melchett, to his long time personal assistant P.W Cushion after 45 years service.
