A George III inlaid mahogany and simulated rosewood longcase clock by Nicholas Himes of Helston, with eight day striking movement and rhyme to the arch, the case with fluted quarter column corners and raised on ogee bracket feet. Height 232 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: We would have thought this clock is circa 1790. The clock hood is in generally good condition with no significant damage issues. It could do with a clean and polish. The trunk door is not warped. The brass lock escutcheon is probably original as are the hinges and door knob. The satinwood urn to the centre of the door has a section of veneer in the centre which is slightly lifting but there are no losses. The corner spandrels are in good condition. The clock base is also in good condition with no warping to the front panel. The feet would appear to be original and in generally good condition. The case, as stated, would benefit from a clean. We have the weights and pendulum and the clock is currently ticking away and striking as it should. The silvered brass dial is in generally good order although a little tarnished and dirty in places. In our opinion the clock is not a marriage. There is no sign of any woodworm.
An early Victorian mahogany bracket clock, in the Gothic style, with crossbanded case, silvered dial and two-train fusee movement by W. Briggs, Guildford. Height 56 cm, width 39 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The clock is in generally extremely good condition. There are no real condition issues with the case that are of any note. There are some old stress fractures to the veneers on the triangular hood but there are no significant losses to the veneer anywhere on the case. There are no missing sections of moulding only very minor scratches and scuffs as one might expect. The fretwork to the sides is in good order. The feet are original. The silvered brass dial is very clean. We have the key and pendulum. The pin at the top of the suspension is missing. The clock movement appears to be very clean and complete. The gong train is fully wound and only running for approximately 1 minute prior to stopping. This should easily release. The strike train is also fully wound but the clock is striking as it should. In our opinion there is little wrong with the mechanism.
A large French ormolu and marble mantle clock, circa 1860. Height 43 cm, width 27 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The clock is winding on both trains. It appears to strike as it should. The marble case is in generally good order with no visible substantial losses or any problems of any note. The brass feet are all present. The remaining metalwork is in generally good condition and all present but is dusty and tarnished with approximately 50% of the original finish rubbed. The dial is in generally good order with a minor loss above the adjustment peg above the numeral 12. There are no nibbles around the winding apertures. There are no hairline cracks. The clock appears to be ticking away and striking as it should. The pendulum is occasionally fouling the bell. We have not had the clock running for any significant length of time but do not think there are any issues with the movement.
A George III oak longcase clock, by Joseph Monkhouse of Carlisle, with thirty hour movement, with date aperture. Height 214 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The case is in generally good order. The return moulding on the top left hand side of the cornice has a small front edge loss. The front edge moulding on the right hand side also is slightly damaged. The sides of the hood, pillars and door are in good order. The mask around the dial appears to fit correctly. We have the weight and pendulum however the suspension spring is broken. The movement appears to operate without the pendulum in place and appears to strike as it should. The trunk door is in good order as are the sides. The base is in generally good condition. The bottom moulding maybe a later addition but has been with the clock for a long time and does not look at all out of place. We cannot see any evidence of woodworm. The door handle is probably original as are the hinges.
A 19th century French brass mantle clock, with two-train striking movement, with dolphin supports and raised on a pink marble base. Height 34 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The clock case is in very good overall condition with no damage, no repairs and no restoration. The only issue is discolouration and some loss of the original lacquered finish. It is also very dusty. The door hinge is in good condition. The door glass is in generally good order with few surface scratches. There are however 2 cm long scratches across the numeral 2. The clock dial has some damage. There are hairline cracks to the left and right of the Arabic numeral 10 and a series of cracks between 25 & 35. There are also 2 small hairline cracks around the 45. There are some minor nibbles around the winding apertures. Both trains wind. The clock strikes as it should on the hour and the half. The movement is ticking away but for only 30 seconds or so at a time. It seems a little dirty. The marble base has minor nibbles to the extremities but no significant losses. The rear door is in good order.
