A Regency Mahogany Striking Table Clock, signed Chas Watts, Oxford, circa 1820, arched top case, side carrying handles and fish scale sound frets, brass inlaid front, brass ball feet, 8-inch convex painted dial with Roman numerals and signed, twin chain fusee movement with an anchor escapement and striking on a bell, 40.5cm highCase front with some cracks to the veneers, front of the case with one small piece of later added veneer next to the 9 o'clock position, some veneer has been later added to the left hand side of the case around the bezel key hole, dial with the Roman numeral black paint slightly missing in parts, dial with small scratches, movement looks complete and in going order, strike is working, with pendulum.

Diese Konstruktion macht es überflüssig, den Rahmen und das Gemälde während des Aufziehens anzuheben, was bei Bilderuhren dieser Epoche sehr umständlich war. Hiller baute diese Zeitansage-Uhr, die mit einem phonographenähnlichen Mechanismus ausgerüstet war, über den ein Zelluloidstreifen mit vertikaler Tonspur lief. Darauf waren alle 48 Viertelstunden (von 0 bis 12 Uhr) verzeichnet, welche vom Tonkopf abgelesen und über einen kleinen Trichter angesagt wurden. Die Zeitansage erfolgte auf Deutsch. Für den Export gab es Streifen in Fremdsprachen. Auf Wunsch (z.B. für "Langschläfer") konnte die Zeitansage mehrere Male wiederholt werden. Mit Schalldose und Trichter, ohne Zeiger und Kurbel, Band beschädigt, aber vorhanden, ungetestet. - Literatur: D. Marty, "Grammophone", 1981, S. 170. - Interessantes Sammlungsstück.
