The pierced conical cover moulded with overlapping pink scales and with spirally-fluted finial, the boat-shaped vase painted with Cupid mid-air firing an arrow, within a raised-gilt floral cartouche below a series of circular apertures and beast-head terminals, standing on four scroll-supports highlighted in puce (light rubbing to gilding). 15 1/8 in. D...W...E...Gutman (19th/20th century) A Scene on the River Amazon with a Cruise Liner Beside the River Bank, Two Men in a Wooden Canoe Fishing in the Foreground, One Holding a Bow and Arrow, a Native Hut under Palm Trees in the Foreground] Signed and dated "1923", oil on canvas, 25.5cm by 46cm (10in by 18in) *The vessel portrayed in the picture is possibly the "SS Hildebrand" portrayed on the Amazon on a cruise which left Liverpool on 15th May 1923, sailing via the southern end of Ireland towards Cape Finisterre on the Spanish coast entering Leixoes Harbour on 18th May 1923 and going on to visit Lisbon, Madeira, Manaus (Manowes), entering the Rio Negro on 5th June 1923. *The artist is said to have been the Chief Engineer on the "SS Hildebrand". *The painting is sold together with details of the trip compiled by France and Fanny Littlewood of West Yorkshire. France Littlewood being the treasurer of the original Labour Party. Photocopied details of this voyage are available for viewing.

A late 17th century/early 18th century French oval mounted ivory patch box, with a pique-work cover and base and a stand away hinge, opening to reveal the symbolic miniature portrait of a seductive lady with a bow and arrow, two doves in attendance, a flowing gown and ships in the distance, the cover hinging open further to reveal the portrait of yet another seductive young lady at her toilette and the portrait of a young gentleman in a powdered wig with an unbuttoned jacket, (on paper behind glass), no apparent makers' mark, struck with charge and discharge marks, apparently for Paris 1684, probably dating from 1700-1720.
