A Chinese wucai decorated porcelain inverted baluster jar and cover, probably Transitional period, c.1650, finely and densely painted with an allover design of infant boys climbing the scrolling stems of flowering peonies, some foliage in underglaze blue, the uprising neck and domed cover with cracked ice and polychrome arrow leaf borders, the base with six character Chenghua marks within double concentric circles, 14.5in. (36.8cm.) high, the vase badly cracked.* A sleeve vase with very similar decoration was sold at Christies New York, 'Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art', 18th September 2003.

(84 x 71cm.).
