British WWI 18Pr Artillery Sighting Scope. It is made of brass with a black painted finish, although the paint has worn away in several places leaving a very dull brass colour. There is a graduated focusing adjustment. It would appear to be designed to sit in a cradle; there is a locating pin to prevent rotation of the body while focusing. Engraved on the body is: W. Remains of engravings at the base. Remains of gilding. Solid silver hilt, stamped, with quillon with three loop-guards. Ivory grip (cracks and some part missing) with three, silver medallions. Silver ring-nut, engraved with a trophy. Short, silver cap with remains of stamps. length 69,2 cm.
dating: 18th/19th Century provenance: India, Wide and strong, double-edged blade, probably in damask, reinforced and ribbed tip, with thin raiser in the center and arrow-grooves. Wide grip of typical shape, with two crossbars, with finest, golden, floral decorations (parts missing). Wooden scabbard, covered with velvet. length 38.5 cm.
dating: Mid 19th Century provenance: Southern Italy, Round, smooth-bore, 20 mm cal. barrel, decorated with a long rib, shaped as an arrow, fore-sight; long tang with sight. Miquelet lock, engraved and chiselled with floral motifs. Wooden, full stock with checkered grip and palm-rest. Butt embossed with a duck's head and rosette. Brass mounts, engraved with floral motifs, counter-plate with a couple of ducks. Openable butt-plate with magazine for cartridges. A sliding, integrated bayonet under the barrel. Iron ramrod. length 132.5 cm.
