An RAF operations room sector wall clock: the eight-day duration, single-fusee movement stamped to the backplate 9113, Made by Elliott Ltd, England, 1939, the twenty-four hour, fourteen-inch sector dial having black Roman numerals, RAF 'King's Crown' warrant officer's insignia to the centre, red, blue and yellow sector markings and blued steel spade hands, the round ebonised case having a black painted brass bezel and stamped on the rear of the backbox Elliott Ltd, above the Air Ministry cypher, stencilled to the back with the Admiralty arrow followed by R 4-8-1953, Stores No. 218/WS, Con. No. A159407/53/C22(B), diameter 47cm. * Sector clocks were widely used during the Second World War to track enemy aircraft movements. As an enemy plane was spotted its' position was marked on a UK map using the British Modified Grid system laid out at a sector operations room, using a coloured disc matching the coloured segment on the clock dial as pointed to by the minute hand, each coloured sector representing five minutes. The discs were then repositioned on the map as further sightings came in, using a magnetic 'rake', which enabled the controllers to follow the progress and formation of each flight and work out its' possible target, This simple, but extremely effective, method of gaining the required information with speed allowed quick decisions to be made in the battle of the air.

CHAVEZ HUGO: (1954-2013) President of Venezuela 1999-2013. An excellent A.L.S., Hugo Chavez Frias Comandante MBR-200, two pages, 8vo, Yare, 7th November 1992, to soldier Jose Melero, in Spanish. Chavez writes his thoughts and response to the verso of a letter received by his correspondent. The four lines text written by Jose Melero are almost indecipherable, as a result of his multiples wounds and physical incapacity. Beneath these lines Chavez has annotated `Translation´, with an arrow pointing a text written in another hand stating `What can we do, there is nothing we can do, but we will not surrend..´. To the verso Chavez has cleanly written `Note: The unintelligible note was sent to me the 5th November 1992 by soldier Jose Melero, who was shot with 20 gun bullets the 4th February, at Valencia. He is at the Military Hospital of Maracay. He lost one leg and his motor skills. He belonged to the Tank Battalion “Pedro Leon Torres”…´ and further states `Those scribbles touched my soul and awake the dream and inflame rage. “The Tank Military spirit, full of bravery and abnegation !Will Never Die!, because it is the soldier´s own soul! And the soul is inmortal.´ Chavez concludes with a tribute to his correspondent `!!!Glory and Homeland to Jose Melero, one of the so many anonymous heroes of the 4F.!!´. An extremely interesting letter with good association. A couple of small staple holes to the upper left corner, not affecting the text or signature, and upper edge slightly irregularly trimmed, otherwise VG £400-600 The MBR-200 was the clandestine Revolutionary Bolivarian Movement founded in the early 80´s by Hugo Chavez and his former couple Herma Marksman, a History teacher, inspired by Ezequiel Zamora (1817-1860) Venezuelan leader of the federalists, Simon Bolivar (1783-1830) Venezuela´s Liberator, and Simon Rodriguez (1769-1854) Venezuelan Philosopher and Bolivar´s mentor, who were known as the “Three Roots of the Tree”. T he letter is written from Yare, where Chavez was arrested and imprisoned after his coup attempt on 4th February 1992. The 4F relates to the coup attempt of 4th February 1992 leaded by Chavez.
