An 18th Century British basket hilted cavalry backsword, broad single edged blade 32 in., two narrow back fullers funning most of the length of the blade and struck with the conventional name 'ANDREIA FARARA'; basket guard formed of flattened-oval bars, the front and each side incorporating a cross and arrow motif, the front quarters occupied by horizontal serpentine bars - those on the inside relieved by a large oval aperture, two further vertical bars to the back on each side, flattened spherical pommel; the wooden grip with original wire bound covering retaining approximately 70% of the shagreen.
