BR(E) Enamel Station Direction Sign SOUTHEND SHOEBURYNESS, F/F and with right facing feathered arrow. Measures 36" x 18" and although having some edge chipping and minor face scratches, it is extremely rare. Essex stations such as these two were fitted with totems but all the Southend ones seem to have been destroyed and only one Shoeburyness is known.

This superb panel retains its cab grab rail and large B.R. double arrow logo. 03 Flame Cut Cabsides are extremely scarce.

AN ELGIN DECK WATCH the round white enamel dial having black Arabic numerals, a sweep seconds hand and signed 'Elgin', the movement stamped 'B.W. Raymond, Elgin Natl Watch Co. USA' with the serial number '41753110', the inside of the case stamped with the number '84003' and the Elgin trademark, the rear of the case stamped with the Admiralty arrow and the serial numbers '53110, H.S.3' contained in a mahogany deck box; diameter 50 mm. A WALNUT LONGCASE CLOCK the five pillar, eight day movement having ringed pillars and striking the hours on a bell, the 10½ inch brass dial with cast 'crown and cherub' spandrels to the corners, a matted centre with ringed winding holes, subsidiary seconds dial below XII o'clock, a raised chapter ring engraved with black Roman hour numerals, Arabic five minute numerals, decorative half hour engraving of the 'meeting arrow head' style and signed either side of VI o'clock 'John Sims, Alderbury', with decorative blued steel hands, the later walnut case having satinwood and ebonised crossbanding to the case and hood, the fluted columns to the hood surmounted by brass capitals and having blocks to the flat top with brass eagle and ball finials, height 225cm (inc. finial). * John Sims is recorded as working in Alderbury near Salisbury, Wiltshire prior to 1764.
Alexander Johnston, c.1745. - a tablespoon, Old English pointed pattern, possibly altered from Hanoverian pattern, engraved crest of armoured figure on a tower holding an arrow and a shield (four bottom marks - AI; pot of lilies; AI; script T) (9;8/9) a good example of a scarcely found maker's mark. Johnston was known to be an ardent follower of the Jacobite cause.

A fine quality French double barrelled 14 bore percussion sporting gun, by Le Page, 46½” overall, barrels 30½” gold inlaid with bands of stars and ears of corn at breech, “Canons Damas d’Acier Fin” on top rib, and with arrow and lines at the muzzle, engraved back action locks gold inlaid “Fni.par Lepage” in scrolls, nicely figured walnut halfstock, the fore end carved with panel of scales, the wrist carved with similar panels of scales terminating in a vigorous lion’s head, deeply embossed brass mounts, including Diana the huntress on the trigger guard, head of Mercury and Caduceus on the throat pipe, and on the butt plate lions drinking at a fountain, wolf and hanging game, brass mounted ebony ramrod. Generally Good Condition (one action AF, the barrels and locks lightly rusted overall with a dark patina, the mounts with thick verdrigis overall). Plate 38
A de-activated .577” Snider 2 band military rifle, 48¾” overall, barrel 30½” with various Enfield proofs, and stamped at the breech with broad arrow and “NZ” and numbers “83/473”, the lock stamped with crowned VR and “1861 Tower”, walnut fullstock with regulation brass mounts, steel cleaning rod, sling swivels.
