Basically GC (action AF, cock replaced, safety bolt incomplete, swivel ramrod missing, saddle bar heavily pitted, minor damage to fore end)

BR(S) enamel Station Sign TOWN CENTRE with right facing arrow, white on green, then beneath FOR WEST STATION STRAIGHT AHEAD TURN RIGHT THEN FIRST LEFT, green on white in a panel. F/F measuring 36" x 30". Excellent condition with deep colour and shine and only minor chips. Ex Tunbridge Wells station.
LNWR wooden First Aid Box with original labels (plus a later BR). Hinged top lid, measures 17" x 6" x 8". No contents except a few wooden splints some stamped L&NWR. Together with a small green on white enamel sign `Fire Exit` with left facing arrow and also a BR North Eastern Region `Best Kept Station` award for Featherstone Station dated 1958, in its original glazed frame.

* Fretwell (Keith). Bristol ‘Beaufighter’ Mk IF, T4638 Code NG-F of No. 604 (County of Middlesex) Squadron, orig. watercolour, airbrush and gouache, heightened with white, on card, 18.75 x 24in (47.6 x 61cm), unsigned. T4638 was the 16th Bristol Beaufighter Mk IF night-fighter built by the Fairey Aviation Company, equipped with AI Mk IV, characterised by the broad arrow nose aerial and outer wing arrays, and carrying an armament of four 20-mm and six 0.303-in (7.7-mm) guns, T4638 joined No. 604 (County of Middlesex) Sqn at Middle Wallop in 1941. At this time the squadron, commanded by Wing Commander John Cunningham, was the top-scoring night-fighter unit in the RAF, and had been one of the first to receive the Beaufighter at the height of Battle of Britain in September 1940. Although crews had been slow to master the use of AI radar, by the end of the German night Blitz of 1940-1 the Beaufighter had become the world’s most effective night-fighter. (1)

Circle of Francesco Solimena (Italian, 1657-1757): The Martyrdom of St Ursula, the nun saint depicted slumped on a dais, an arrow piercing her breast, surrounded by attendant angels and putti, oil on canvas Solimena became Naples leading painter after the departure of the painter Luca Giordano for Spain in 1682 and like his predecessor he too painted in a flamboyant Baroque style albeit with a lighter touch which tended more towards classicism in his later years as the middle years of the 18th century progressed. Solimena works ranged from large history pictures, alter pieces and frescos as well as portraits and small-scale paintings, Much admired throughout Europe and in demand among the princes and aristocracy of France, Spain and Austria during his lifetime, the composition of the current lot illustrates a typical use of a particular reddish brown ground which came be associated with the artist. 119cm x 85cm Condition: The canvas relined, revarnished and with typical restorations to surface commensurate with age. Baker, London, no. 1135, subsidiary seconds and up/down dials, blued steel hands, spring detent escapement, blued steel helical spring, free-sprung, in a brass bowl gimballed in a three tier mahogany box with brass drop handles, subsidiary seconds with War Dept. Arrow, base and bowl engraved H.S.I., circa 1825.
A scarce percussion safety fuse pistol, with 6cm bronze barrel, bronze frame and integral trigger, various stamps including Enfield inspectors, War Department and military arrow marks, steel belt hook, one piece diced butt with lanyard ring, 21cm overall These pistols were made for the Royal Engineers for igniting fuses for mines.
A late 17th century walnut marquetry longcase clock, the eight-day duration movement having five latched finned pillars and striking the hours on a bell with an outside countwheel, the ten-inch square brass dial having a raised silvered chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals, meeting-arrow-head half-hour markings and Arabic five-minute outer numerals, the matted dial centre having a raised seconds dial, ringed winding holes, a date aperture with scroll engraved surround and cup-and-ring turnings, with cast brass cherub-head spandrels to the four corners and decorative blued steel hands, the walnut case having panelled marquetry inlay to the door including an arched panel to the top and an octagonal panel below the glass lenticle and further panels to the corners of the door, the plain hood formerly rising but now forward sliding, the base re-built, height 198cm. ** Provenance: Ourletts, Kent (a National Trust property) and thence by family descent.
