Dated 1799 AD. Obv: profile bust with raised, downward pointing 'broad arrow' below. Rev: Britannia with five gunports to ship with BRITANNIA legend and date 1?7 9?9 with raised downward 'broad arrows' between outer pairs of numerals. Edge: grained in groove. 12.18 grams. S. 3778 variant; Peck 1248 variant. This is a most curious piece; the single 'broad arrow' to the obverse and the two similar arrows within the date to the reverse have clearly been cut into the dies resulting in them being raised on this coin; the elements of the arrows, formed each from three lines, have been engraved rather than punched.
