In the same family for more than 50 years 1923 Hispano-Suiza H6B 32HP SkiffCoachwork by In the style of KellnerChassis no. 10556Engine no. 300611• Le nec plus ultra de l'ingénierie automobile à son époque• Dans la même famille depuis 1965• Professionnellement restauré entre 2007 et 2009• Carrosserie inspirée de la H6C '11739'• The ultimate in automotive engineering in its day• In the same family since 1965• Professionally restored between 2007 and 2009• Body modelled on H6C '11739'Footnotes:Carrosserie dans le style de KellnerChâssis numéro. Après l'achèvement de la restauration en 2009, l'Hispano a été conduite jusqu'au domicile du propriétaire, un voyage de 500 kilomètres qui s'est déroulé sans accroc.1923 Hispano-Suiza H6B 32hp SkiffCoachwork in the style of Kellner Chassis no. 10556Engine no. 300611The choice of European royalty, Indian Maharajahs, Hollywood film stars and industrial tycoons, the legendary Hispano-Suiza was superbly engineered and imitated unashamedly by some of the world's leading car manufacturers. The genius of Swiss engineer Marc Birkigt had been proven by Captain Georges Guynemer's 'Escadrille Cigogne' (Stork Squadron) of Hispano-Suiza-engined Spad fighter planes in World War I. It was this same brilliance that was reflected in the sensational and finely engineered new H6 cars built in Paris at the Bois Colombes factory and unveiled to the world in 1919. The H6B model followed for the 1922 season.Insignia of Guynemer's Stork Squadron, 'La Cigogne Volante' radiator emblem appeared for the first time in 1919, adorning the radiator of the H6, an all-new six-cylinder car of 6,597cc capacity, which was to be the mainstay of production for some 15 years. The model was renowned for its ease of handling, its flexible engine – which required only a three-speed gearbox – and its efficient servo-assisted brakes, the latter adopted by Rolls-Royce later on. Subsequent significant developments of the H6 included the Monza and the exciting short chassis 8-liter Boulogne.Reflecting aero engineering technology, the new car made the other 'hyphenated greats' - Rolls-Royce, Isotta-Fraschini and Pierce-Arrow take notice. The H6B Hispano-Suiza found favour with the rich, the discerning and the famous. This Hispano-Suiza H6B was first registered in March 1923. Its history is known from 3rd April 1935 when it became the property of Mr Pierre Mandreau, the Citroën sales agent in Carcassonne; it was there that the car was re-bodied as a convertible and registered as '3943 RJ5'. The Hispano remained in the same hands until 7th November 1965 when it passed into the ownership of the current vendor's family, who acquired it from Mr Jacques Barré of Démolition Autos, Route Nationale 20, Pins-Justaret. The Hispano was reregistered as '575-MA34'.The car still retained its convertible body from the 1930s and remained untouched until 2007 when the restoration began, supervised by Mr Denis Feydieu. The non-original convertible body was then removed and replaced with a new skiff body. The latter was inspired by the H6C, chassis '11739', bodied as a skiff by Kellner in 1928 and exhibited at the Revs Institute for Automotive Research. This versatile coachwork features two separate compartments, each with its own windscreen, the rear capable of being completely closed, making this H6B a two-seater.The new body's timber construction of which was led by SNC Marcadier. Jean-Marc Vidal took care of the bodywork, while the interior was trimmed by Alex Main in Vichy. The engine was restored by Laurent Rondoni of Ventoux Moteurs. Overhauling the gearbox, electrics and running gear was carried out by Denis Feydieu, whom also looked after assembly and finishing. Following the restoration's completion in 2009, the Hispano was driven to the owner's home, a 500-kilometre journey that was completed without a hitch....
