Harvey, July 11th, 1804, vignette title-page, and thirty engravings on letterpress, some light spotting and toning, two facing pages with some juvenile colouring, disbound and loosely inserted into later marbled wrappers, 12 x 8cm (4.75 x 3ins), together with Hack (Maria), Winter Evenings; or, Tales of Travellers, 4 volumes, 3rd edition, printed for Harvey and Darton, 1823, engraved frontispiece to each (that to first volume slightly frayed to fore-edge, just clipping head-line), some spotting and toning, D5 in volume 3 with lower corner torn away (with loss of a few letters), contemporary ownership name on front free endpapers, volumes 1 and 4 lacking rear free endpaper, original red roan-backed marbled boards gilt, extremities rubbed, spines faded and with some minor loss at ends, 12mo in 6s, housed together in a modern card slipcase, plus [Strickland, Agnes], The Moss-House: in which many of the Works of Nature are Rendered a Source of Amusement to Children, 1st edition, William Darton, 1822, six engraved plates, including frontispiece, lightly offset to text, front hinge splitting, early manuscript name on front free endpaper, blue sprinkled edges, original roan-backed marbled boards, extremities a little rubbed in places, 12mo in 6s, plus other antiquarian children's books similar Provenance: from the library of a descendant of the publisher William Darton. Darton G1074(3): the first edition of 'Youthful Sports' was published in 1801, and all editions are rare. It contains descriptions of such games as: Battledore and Shuttlecock; Quoits; Blindman's Buff; Flying the Kite; Bow and Arrow; Stilts; Marbles, Peg Top; Trap Ball; Air Balloons, Dressing Dolls; Bird Nesting; Whip Top; and Badger the Bull, or Bait the Bear. A rare Jaeger Le Coultre circa 1948 Mk II RAF issue pilot's chronometer wristwatch, circular black dial with Arabic numerals, luminous hands and points in a steel case, marked to the back with broad arrow 6B/3462817/48, on a brown leather strap with dial cover (Provenance: with the same owner since 1963 who worked at Wylfa Nuclear Power Station, in 1967 the watch was compulsory sent to have the luminosity on the fingers reduced to a safe dose by CEGB, as it was registering on the equipment at the entry and exit points of the site), (wear and tear age commiserate, appears to be a non-runner, we cannot access the movement)

An interesting Great War Webley & Scott MK I brass signal pistol. Issue marks for 1915 and WD arrow. Framed marked 'Webley & Scott Ltd London & Birmingham'. The frame on the right hand side has been struck by a bullet which has gone through the left hand side breaking the top off. There is no right hand grip which was destroyed by the bullet strike. A museum piece! Deactivated with certificate. Action a/f.
An attractive Victorian walnut veneered and ebony Vienna style wall clock With a 16cm white enamelled dial with blued hands, Roman numerals the two train spring driven movement with a visible grid iron pendulum the roundel initialled RA flanking an arrow, the slender case with an ebonised urn finial, shaped ears, ebonised pendants with an undercut base. 89x29cms.

(with arrow mark) & a Victorian gold-cased column pencil with engraved decoration & seal terminal, inscribed "Jos. Bell Esq. MD"; the latter 4.75" (12 cms) long (3) *Dr Joseph Bell (1837-1911) became renowned lecturer of the Medical University in Edinburgh. Arthur Conan Doyle attended Dr. Bell's lectures whilst studying medicine at University & was so fascinated by his tutor's powers of observation & his deductive & inductive powers of reasoning that he (Joseph Bell) later became the inspiration for Conan Doyle's character Sherlock Holmes.
Of Manchester Ship Canal Interest: An Art Deco silver souvenir presentation cigarette box By Turner & Simpson Ltd., Birmingham 1937 Of tapered rectangular form, with an applied gadrooned rim, engine turned decoration, raised on four canted feet. The lid engraved with the M.S.C ARROW, inside the silver-gilt lid engraved with Edinburgh Castle, inscribed, 'A souvenir of the launch of the M. S. C. "Arrow" presented to Miss Lillian R. Smith, 26th July 1938. Owners: The Manchester Ship Canal Co. Manchester, Builders: Henry Robb Limited, Leith'. Loaded, Height 7cm, Length 23cm, weight combined 2.3 troy oz. N.B. MSC ARROW: The Manchester Ship Canal Company Ltd ordered for a tug to work on the Manchester Ship Canal; she was the third in a long line of tugs to be ordered. The ARROW spent her war years on the canal used as a tug doing her normal towing work but also used as a fire fighting tug, with constant danger of enemy air raids she was kept busy during the spell from 1939 to 1945. She worked constantly on the canal for a total of 34 years before being sold on in 1972. She was sold on to the Malta Tug & Lighter Co, Ltd and she was renamed San Pietru, ten years later she was sold on again to Greek shipping interests and was renamed yet again, then she was finally renamed as ANTEOS C.
