First World War military pocket watch, white dial with Roman numerals and subsidiary minute dial, reverse of watch stamped with broad arrow and number C48829, complete with leather watch fob, 42 mm in diameter, the watch was part of a grouping of items attributed to Samuel Gilbert Carn RFC/RAF, (Samuel Carn was born in 1889 and married Mabel Jones at Walthamstow on 14th March 1914, he was 'mustered' on the 5th March 1916 and served in France, his middle name is recorded as 'Giles' on RAF muster records, 40 Squadron RFC, later RAF was formed at Gosport in Feb 1916 and moved to France in August the same year first operating F.E. 8s later being equipped with S.E.5s, Major Edward Mannock was one of the 'aces' that served with this Squadron, tragically, Samuel and Mabels son Flight Sergeant (Pilot) Norman George Gilbert Carn, 1334625, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, of 274 Squadron, was killed in action on 30th September 1944 and is buried at the Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery in the Netherlands)
Rare First World War attributed Royal Engineers Tunnelling Company Pick, made by the Hardy Patent Pick Company of Sheffield, the Acme No 1 pick was used by miners in the UK, double edged with detachable head for ease of shapening and retempering, top strap marked with makers name and stamped with broad arrow, the letters 'TE' and the date 1915, ash shaft stamped 'H. LEATHER R.E.', records show that 132573 Sapper Hubert Leather, born 1893, trade, miner, enlisted on 5th October 1915, finding that he 'posesses the necessary qualifications for rating as a tunneller..' he joined 252 Tunnelling Company R.E. entering France on 25th October 1915, 252 Tunnelling Company was engaged with digging the H3 Mine under the Hawthorne Ridge Redoubt during the preperations for the battle of the Somme, he later joined 175 Tunnelling Company R.E. in the Ypres Salient, he is shown as entitled to the 1914-15 Star, 1914-1918 British War Medal, and Victory Medal, a label attached to the pick reads, 'Note by Sapper H. Leather T.C., He was putting a borehole in a sap when the Germans heard him, his auger hit some timbers in an old gallery, the Germans, who must have been listening, charges ready, blew their counter charge, Leather was blown about 10 yards back along the gallery, crawled back to the officers dugout & was given a halful mug of rum, he waited 2 hours for the gas to clear & was sapping there again the same night', pick head 30 cm in length, ash shaft 70 cm

Second World War British Fighting Knife by Wiiliam Rodgers, Sheffield, steel stilleto blade with makers name and 'I Cut My Way' on ricasso, ringed leather handle with steel pommel, this type of knife was bought as a private purchase by soldiers in the Second World War but this example is stamped with a broad arrow on top of the cross guard making it a War Department issue item, scabbard absent, the Rodgers trademark was aquired by John Clarke and Son in the 1850s, interestingley, a label attached to the knife states that it was formerly the property of ' *****ewing, 1st Molesey Patrol, Surrey' (Auxiliary Unit), the Auxiliary units were a force of civilian volunteers trained to stay and carry out guerilla warfare behind enemy lines in the event of a German invasion of the British Isles
