The makers have kindly confirmed that gun no. 1 and 2 were completed as a pair for a Mr R. Scott in 1909 and that gun no.3 was made to complement the pair in 1912, for the same client. The guns were passed on to Mr M. Scott in 1948. The engraving is likely to be the work of Harry Kell.

Autograph envelope signed, Calder, boldly addressed in his hand in dark fountain pen ink to Mrs. Stirling Calder in New York City. The envelope bears the printed address of the Grand Hotel de Versailles in Paris and is postally cancelled 24th August 1926. Signed to the top edge above the printed return address. Together with a second autograph envelope, unsigned, in the hand of Calder, addressed to Peg and Ken Hayes in California and postally cancelled at Roxbury, Connecticut, 25th October 1962. The envelope bears the stamped return address of Calder and the artist has drawn a large arrow in bold red crayon to a clear area above which appears the word Air (Mail).
