Austin Seven AEW Sports Special Registration number: YVS573 First Registered: 1936 Engine Size: 749cc Colour: Maroon and black Engine Number: M290024 Chassis Number: 259536 V5C present In 1932 a coachbuilder called A.E.Wright at Bedford Garage, Beford Road, Alexandra Park, London started building bodies on new Standard Austin seven chassis. Modelled on similar specials like Swallow, Arrow and Gordon England it was Wright's attempt of a close coupled two seater sports which would potentially take a slice of the increasing affordable open sports market many car producers were trying to tap into. The AEW was a pretty little car with cut away sides and light body giving it type 65 looks but at a greatly reduced price tag due to construction on standard high chassis. Performance was significantly better than a standard Seven and with its folding windscreen and louvred bonnet had real sporty appeal. Unfortunately Wright's exploits were short lived due to the ever increasing competition and production costs, cars were made in low numbers approximately around 200, and very few survive today. It is said that this example offered is one left of four known. This rare survivor was discovered in 1993 in a farm yard . In barn find condition, ripe for restoration but remained complete with original engine, bodywork and factory fittings. Over the next few years it was subject to a full and detailed restoration by the discerning and knowledgeable owner who embarked on comprehensive strip down, refurbishing every aspect of the car but keen to keep as much originality as possible. Finished in maroon over black and can only by described as in fantastic condition, is a joy to drive. With its responsive rebuilt 750cc engine, four speed box and great lines will turn heads at any event. Given the car's rarity and history (we believe there are only two surviving two-seat AEGs) it is an obvious choice for the collector who loves all things Austin Seven, but craves something a little different from the many standard tourers and box saloons out there, but for very similar money. Sold with a large history file, photographic record and handbook she is ready to drive away, show or compete in club events. Buyer's premium of 10% (+VAT) applies to this lot. Recent restoration, paintwork good, paint flat on bonnet top. Interior re-trimmed to high standard. Hood in excellent order. New tyres. Starts and drives well.
