Inert non firing purported model of Davy Crockett’s “Old Betsy” Kentucky rifle by Franklin Mint. A percussion muzzle-loader with black octagonal barrel, fixed iron sights, black lock and hammer and set trigger. Woodwork in attractive walnut with arrows, stars and crescent inset decoration. Brass plaque on wood at breech “PRESENTED TO DAVID CROCKETT AT NASHVILLE TENN MAY 5 1822” and barrel has silver insert on top flat “Jas M Graham” presumably maker. Ornate brass patch-box to butt with Indian figure engraved. We believe original “Old Betsy” was a flintlock and 1822 is early for cap type percussion ignition but this item is stated to be a replica of the rifle on display at the Alamo and makes for an interesting piece of Texas history and a discussion piece. There appears to be evidence of a crack at the wrist, depth unknown, which may have been caused by falling from its wall display board at some time. Included is its display board with light brown wood frame, certificate and leaflet/booklet relating history. INERT NON-FIRING DISPLAY PIECE TO PRE-1870 DESIGN NO LICENCE REQUIRED BUT BUYER MUST BE OVER 18
A WW2 era, large 1.5m x 2.5m German Kriegsmarine ‘Reichkriegsflagge’.Of standard Kriegsmarine design, with a large screen printed swastika to the centre left position, and an iron cross motif to the top left quarter section.Stitched white selvage, with the hand inked details ‘Reichkriegsflg 1.5 x 2.5’, and the eagle, swastika and letter M to indicate marine use.Its size would suggest it would have been flown on a large vessel.Provenance: acquired at the end of WW2 by Lieutenant, later Captain D.B.Lynes of the 2nd S.A.S.The flag is believed to have been acquired, along with other Kriegsmarine pieces from a German submarine base or ‘sub pen’ in Bergen at the end of WW2. The flag has remained in the family since the end of WW2.Other Kreigsmarine pieces collected by Captain Lynes are offered in separate lots.Condition: peppered with moth holes throughout, but the main structure of the flag is intact.Clear markings to selvage, plus a little water staining to the edge.
A good pair of WW2 era Kreigsmarine 7 x 50 binoculars by E.Leitz, Wetzlar, complete with fitted case. The case is date stamped 1943, and also makers mark beh for Leitz. To the lid of the case is the usual eagle and swastika over a letter M. The case is complete with its leather strap and elasticated retainer strap. The binoculars are of standard form, with a slightly rough textured body, and black painted metal fittings. Each eyepiece are independently focusing, with the optics being a little dirty / misty. Profusely marked with ‘7x50 beh 368627 (T) KF’ to one side, and an eagle and swastika over a letter M, plus ‘24324 N’. The binoculars retain their original bakelite cover, elasticated band holding them to the frame. The thin leather strap currently attached to the binoculars appears to be a contemporary replacement. Condition: the case remains in good condition, with good stitching, and all the straps present. Some light marks to the leather commensurate with age. The binoculars have some loss of black paint in the usual areas, which has revealed the base metal, and the coppery brass wash in places. The elasticated band holding the bakelite cover in place has come away from the clip at some point in the past, and this is now held in place some twisted wire. As mentioned in the description, the binoculars can be focused, but there is a little misting internally to the lenses.
