Brown, at the Black Swan, 1699. sold not subject to return. ⁂ The final two leaves contain a catalogue of books by Bourignon. Bourignon (1616-1680) was a French-Flemish mystic and adventurer, who preached that the end of the world was imminent. She attracted a good number of mainly male followers, including Robert Boyle (who had her work translated into English) and Jan Swammerdam.

William Turner of Oxford (1789-1862) - 'Wimbledon Common' a mother and three children beside a pond, a windmill and cottages beyond, inscribed on a later label verso indicating that the back of the original picture is inscribed 'Wimbledon Common Turner of Devonshire', watercolour with wiping out, 5" x 8.75"-** Turner was born at Black Bourton, Oxfordshire and joined the artist John Varley in London circa 1807 having his first exhibition at the Royal Academy. He was elected a full member of the watercolour society in 1808 and for the rest of his life participated in their yearly exhibitions. He is often known as William Turner of Oxford or just Turner of Oxford to distinguish himself from his contemporary J. M. W. Turner (known as William). Many of the artist's pictures are depicting the countryside around Oxford making this particular work quite unusual. The work is painted on hand woven paper, the weave running from left hand to right.
