French M.1866 Chassepot 11mm needle fire bolt action rifle, 32inch barrel fitted with folding sight and bayonet lug, serial number F42122, the receiver dated 1867.Section 58(2) antique/ obsolete calibre no licence required to buy this lot, purchaser must be over the age of 18.130cm longCondition report: Action works correctly and has a strong spring. The rifle still has its original needle and obturator. The exterior has overall light pitting and staining to the metalwork but would probably improve with some careful cleaning. The stock has a lot of scratches dents chips but is free from splits, there are two chips to the wood around the action / tang, one of which as a small piece of wood missing. The cleaning rod is a replacement that does not match very well. The bore has some light pitting patches but nothing very deep. There is an area of the bore around the front barrel band that looks almost like it is dented, this I think is an optical illusion and probably just some pitting, shadowing or dirt that needs scrubbing out. I have removed the barrel band and checked the surrounding area and cannot see and dents which would cause this.
