Jimmy Page played and signed Dearmond by Guild M-75T electric guitar *On Monday 4th March 2002, Jimmy Page jammed with Epsom College pupils in a concert to raise money for street children in Brazil. This is one of the guitars that Jimmy played during the concert and later signed to be auctioned off to help with the proceeds. The vendor, who's son attended Epsom College, bid on the item and ended up being the lucky winner. The guitar is sold with a photograph of Jimmy Page playing a Gibson Les Paul at the event. It is widely know that Jimmy Page rarely signs guitars.
ERIC GILL (1882 - 1940) "Madonna and Child", a marine ivory, executed circa 1922, 7" high, 6" excluding the original wooden base. 8 ¼" high overall. The base with an old paper label inscribed "T W 4, Eric Gill Madonna and Child £100." Provenance: Apparently Father John O'Connor. Acquired by Sir Ernest Debenham and thence by descent. Literature: Listed as number 123 in "Eric Gill: The Sculpture, a Catalogue Raisonne", by Judith Collins, published London, Herbert Press, 1998 and recorded as "location unknown." Exhibited: Presumably the Goupil Gallery Salon, November-December 1922 (400). Job 800 in Gill's ledgers states "1 ivory woman, 2 M & C Madonna and Child, Fr John O'Connor" and it appears that this work and a female nude in ivory were commissioned by Gill's friend, Father John O' Connor, the priest at St. Cuthbert's Church, Bradford. At the time Catalogue Raisonne was published it would seem that the present work was only known from the illustration in Thorp's 1929 book on Gill. Gill rarely worked in the marine ivory and only three small pieces are recorded. In view of this fact it does not seem unreasonable to assume that the ivory Madonna and Child exhibited at the Goupil Gallery Salon in November 1922 can be identified with the present work. Although it is not inconceivable that Sir Ernest Debenham acquired the piece from Father O'Connor, it seems much more likely that he was the purchaser at the Goupil Gallery where the ivory was offered with the exceptionally high price of £100. In view of this it is quite possible that the ivory exhibited at the Goupil Gallery Salon was another work. Sir Ernest Debenham Bt. commissioned Eric Gill to create a memorial at Briantspuddle to commemorate those of the local community who lost their lives in the First World War. The Debenhams had bought the estate from the Frampton family in 1914 and developed it as the Bladen Estate, an experimental agricultural community of smallholdings. Eric Gill's brother, MacDonald Gill, was responsible for the design of the model village at Bladen Valley.
