M Irene Park, "Two Went West, a Travel Book", Herald Press, Lockerbie, 1956, an author-inscribed presentation copy. [Scott Irene Park served with the WAAF during the Second World War, the introduction to this travel memoir read "We hardly discussed going to Canada. It was all very sudden. This friend and I had been working together in a hospital in Scotland where several Canadians were on the staff, and it just struck me one day - we had Canadian girls working with us. Why should we not work there? I went to a Travel Agency to enquire about getting there, and came out having booked two passages. They were provisional bookings, but I was pretty sure that we would go. We got posts almost immediately after our arrival, and then did what I had secretly hoped to do, but doubted it would be possible. We bought a second-hand car between us soon after we started work, drove right across the continent in it (taking all our belongings with us - a minimum of luggage), ... right around the USA to Montreal. The distance covered was nearly 10,000 miles. We then worked in Montreal for a few months, sold the car there, and its proceeds represented the fare home. In fact the account exactly balanced - very satisfactory!"]
