A Victorian gold and agate pencil, the central polished agate column within a pierced scrolling gold surround, to an agate endpiece carved with a monogram, the tip stamped with an M, 11cm long, 14.2g gross, in a fitted burgundy leather caseCondition Report: There is no noticeable damage to the pencil, originally it was thought that the pencil may have been shortened as the top doesn't sit as well to the barrel, but this appears to be from manufacture, it does fit the case very well, and the case appears to be original. There is staining to the case and the leather is flaking away to the outside. There is no marking indicating gold standard, however it is in our opinion 10 to 18 carat gold. The pencil mechanism is at the time of condition report still working, however there is not enough lead in the pencil for it to come out the tip. the lead is approximately 1mm diameter. There is no noticeable damage or losses or the decoration, there is some possible solder to one of the bands where the pencil body joins the tip, but it could be from manufacture. There is also a fine split near the tip, this could also be from manufacture. Some wear from use. Condition Report Disclaimer
Sampson Mordan, an early Victorian gold mourning pencil, circa 1850, the barrel with scrolled foliate black and pale blue enamel, with In Memory Of in black enamel and inscribed with the name H. Smith, with arrow detail, a purple foil backed clear stone endpiece, the tip marked with an M, 8.5cm long (retracted), 7.7g gross, in a period fitted burgundy leather pencil boxThe arrow detail was generally used on gold pencils by S. Mordan that did not bear the name. The use of light blue enamel in jewellery often denotes a young or unmarried person, however the use here could just be decorative.Condition Report: The condition is very good for its age, there are a few small chips to the enamel, only really noticeable under close inspection. The piece has not been tested for gold standard, but it is reputed that Mordan used 10 carat gold for his pencils and used the arrow mark to denote this, please see Bull. K, The KB Collection of Gold Pencils, private publication, 2012, page 48The lead hole is approximately 1mm diameter, the slider is in good working order. The pencil has no hallmark. No noticeable cracks or major damage to the metal, there are a few small nicks to the lobed tip. The fitted box is in good condition for its age.Condition Report Disclaimer

An 18ct white gold, ruby and diamond three stone ring, the central, round cut ruby weighing approximately 0.95ct and flanked by two, round brilliant cut diamonds. Ring size M.* A few absolutely miniscule frits to the girdle on the ruby. No other faults. The diamonds are approx. H-I / SI1 - they are nice and lively but they do have some tiny inclusions visible when viewed through a 10x lens. The colour is well matched.
