Lot 1137

While Roy Weatherby is known worldwide for his fabulous rifles built using the FN Mauser and later J.P. Sauer action, he was, in the beginning, a custom rifle maker and would build a rifle using any action the client requested. This practice ended in the early 1970's when his business got to large to offer such custom work and a demand for his standard rifles was worldwide. Roy built this rifle utilizing a Shultz & Larson Mauser type action, an M 54 J manufactured in Denmark. It is fitted with a "Weatherby .378 Magnum" marked barrel with no provision for sights. The matted rib on frame has two scope blocks installed. The rear stock has a distinctive Weatherby profile, but from the trigger guard forward it is a much beefier and boxy design. He used a very light wood with his signature contracting rosewood forend tip and grip cap with white diamond. Sports the Shultz & Larson quick release floorplate and trigger guard. The bolt is in the white with three oil holes, but no oil grooves. Sports a Weatherby black waffle buttpad and sling eyes. Frame and barrel retains virtually all of their original high polish blue finish, as does floorplate and trigger guard. Stock is excellent to near mint with just a couple of very minor impressions. The only flaw is that there is a hairline repaired 2" crack on left side of forearm starting at rosewood tip along the barrel contour that could easily be repaired properly as to not be seen. Perfect bore and action. The .378 Weatherby Magnum, which was a vast improvement on the old .375 H&H, was a new cartridge that took two years to develop and is capable of taking down the world's largest and most dangerous game. This cartridge has taken nearly every large dangerous game animal in the world. Serial Number-2387; Manufacturer-Weatherby; Model-Bolt Action; Caliber-.378 Weatherby Magnum; Barrel Length-26"; FFL Status-Curio & Relic;
