An Edwardian silver gilt cup and cover by George Fox, London 1903, with a pine cone finial to the domed octagonal cover, twin S-scroll handles, the octagonal cup with ribbons above oval panels engraved with an armorial and To L & M from H & F 1873-1923 , foliage to the base, on an oval pedestal foot, 18cm (7in) high, 388g (12.45 oz) Provenance: Anonymous sale 12th October 1978, lot 175. The arms, crest and coronet for STANLEY, Barons Stanley of Alderley. Edward Lyulph Stanley, 4th Baron Sheffield, 4th Baron Stanley of Alderley and 3rd Baron Eddisbury, PC (1839-1925) married Mary Katherine Bell, daughter of Lowthian Bell, on 6th February 1873.
A mixed lot of silver items, comprising: an Austrian silver and niello work vesta case, by M and S, rectangular form, foliate decoration, plus an Edwardian Britannia standard vesta by Saunders and Shepherd, London 1902, a vesta box, two further vesta cases and a German double stamp box of rectangular form, engine-turned decoration, approx. weight 6.5oz. A pair of George III silver salt cellars, by Paul Storr, London 1817, rounded rectangular form, gadroon borders, gilded bowls, on raised rounded rectangular bases, engraved with a crest, the foot also stamped with an 'M', length 10.2cm, approx. weight 10.5oz. (2) Provenance: purchased from Barbara Cattle, York, February 1985. The crest is that of Shrawley.
