The inside is gilded, it contains 7 pegs with removable silver batons (one peg attachment is broken, but present and no 3 is missing) it is engraved with the initials A-E-R-M on the front of the case.

M D Mallaband is recorded as a temporary Flight Lieutenant in the equipment branch of the Royal Air Force, Flight Lieutenant with seniority of 24/5/1943. With a General Service Medal 1962 - 2007 withe Cyprus clasp named to Lt B.C. Mallaband R.A.M.C. box marked Lt B.C. Mallaband R.A.M.C. A rare* 17th century English plug bayonet, flamboyant blade 11.5 in., engraved at the base with 'GOD SAVE KING JAMES THE 2' to one side and with an arched crown to the other, struck on each side with an armourer's mark of a king's head, and with the inlaid copper dagger mark of the Cutlers' Company of London on one side; brass mounted hilt of 'Helmet-Head' type with polished ebony grip and helmeted head finials to the pommel and each quillon, some restoration to the hilt; in a scabbard of embossed leather with brass straps along each edge united by two straps across each face, lacking chape; offered together with: R.D.C. Evans. 'The Plug Bayonet / An Identification Guide for Collectors', 2002, hard cover, with M/S dedication from the author. Five Medal to Major Henry Mark Healy, T.D., London Irish Rifles: 1914-15 Star (MAJOR H. M. HEALY. 18-LOND. R.); British War Medal 1914-20 and Victory Medal (MAJOR H. M. HEALY.); Territorial Decoration, Edward VII, reverse engraved "Captain & Hon. Major H. M. Healy LONDON IRISH RIFLES (18th County of London) 1909", hallmarked for London 1908; Volunteer Long Service Medal, Victoria (Lieut. H. M. HEALY. 16/Middx. V. R. C.), engraved; later court mounted; all good very fine. Henry Mark Healy appears in the 1898 Army List as a Lieutenant from 22nd January, and his Victorian Volunteer Long Service Medal indicates that he must have enlisted c. 1880. He entered France with the 1st/18th London Regiment 09/03/1915. He took part in fighting at Festubert, May 1915, in the course of which he took command of the Battalion when Lieutenant Colonel Concannon D.S.O. was taken ill. Slightly wounded in the head by shell fire 26/05/1915. Ordered to the UK for transfer to the Territorial Force Reserve in August 1915, owing to severe dental and gastric complaints. Provenance: The Paul Morrissey collection. NB. The collector reunited the T.D. with the other medals to this officer, in the 1980s.
