A TOTEM "ST ALBANS ABBEY". BR(M) maroon, fully-flanged. A few well-repaired face-chips so it looks great. 4 of the 6 flange holes damaged. From the ex LNWR terminus station of the branch from Watford. It opened as "St Albans" in 1858; and was renamed "St Albans Abbey" in 1924. THIS TOTEM HAS NEVER APPEARED FOR SALE BEFORE. (See Lot 69). Interestingly there is no full stop after the 'ST' whereas "St. Albans City" has one.
A TOTEM "WITTON". BR(M) maroon. This is the curtailed full-flange style with 4 holes for station-wall/building fixing. A few chips and some flange rusting but a good colour and shine. From the ex LNWR station, between Aston and Bescot on the Birmingham New Street to Walsall line. It opened in 1876.
A TOTEM "CHAPEL-EN-LE-FRITH CENTRAL". BR(M) maroon, fully-flanged. Virtually mint. From the ex Midland Railway Derbyshire Peak District station, between Peak Forest and Chinley, opened as "Chapel-En-Le-Frith" in 1867; renamed "Chapel-En-Le-Frith Central" in 1924 and closed in 1967. THIS TOTEM HAS NEVER BEEN OFFERED IN AUCTION.
A WORKSPLATE "Doncaster No.2089.1951". As carried by the (LMS) Class 4F (later Class 4) Ivatt 2-6-0 43144 that emerged from Works in September 1951 under Order 1308. With their high running plates above the driving wheels, and nicknamed "Flying Pigs" as a consequence, these powerful and reliable engines were built for local passenger and freight trains but occasionally hauled expresses with distinction. 43144 was a M&GN based loco, at South Lynn, until a move to Stratford in 1959; to Boston in 1962; New England in 1964 and finally Staveley Barrow Hill on 3rd January 1965 from where it was withdrawn on 11th April to be scrapped by Cashmores of Great Bridge, Tipton, Staffs in July. Oval engraved brass, 121/4"x61/4", lightly face-polished only. Stamped into the ex-loco back is "Works Serial Numberplate Drg. 17114 D" (as it should be).
A TOTEM "WEST HAMPSTEAD MIDLAND". BR(M) maroon, half-flanged. The usual half-flange edge-chips well repainted, otherwise very good. A scarce totem from the ex Midland Railway station on the Midland main line between Kentish Town and Cricklewood, opened as "West End for Kilburn And Hampstead" in 1871; renamed "West End" in 1903; "West End and Brondesbury" in 1904; "West Hampstead" in 1905; "West Hampstead Midland" in 1950; "West Hampstead Thameslink" in 1988.
A South African Railways brass bi-lingual CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE "4090.GMAM". As carried by the SAR GMA/M Class 3'6" gauge 4.8.2+2.8.4T Garratt 4090 built by Beyer Peacock as Works No.7688 in 1956. A post-war design of modern lightweight Garratt in service into the late 1980's. A number survive in industrial use, or are preserved. This one is stored. Oval cast brass, 203/4"x141/2", in ex-loco condition.
A Midland & Great Northern Joint Railway (GNR pattern) ground signal lamp, the case brass-plated "M&GNJR GEDNEY. No 13"; the chimney with the remnants of its "Great Northern Railway" oval brass plate. Together with an interior vessel brass-plated "LMS Railway. For Petroleum Only", with burner. The whole in fine original condition. Gedney station, between Sutton Bridge and Spalding, opened in 1862 and closed in 1959.
A TOTEM "CRICKLEWOOD". BR(M) maroon, fully-flanged. A couple of central face chips, and a couple of others, well repaired so it looks good with a fine colour and shine. An uncommon totem from the ex Midland Railway station, between West Hampstead and Hendon on the Midland main line. It opened as "Child's Hill And Cricklewood" in 1870, and was re-named in 1903.
A TOTEM "APPLEBY WEST". BR(M) maroon, half-flanged. The usual half-flange edge-chipping and the top and bottom centre flange holes removed, otherwise very good. Still with its back brackets. From the ex Midland Railway Settle and Carlisle line station opened as "Appleby" in 1876; renamed "Appleby West" in 1952; "Appleby" again in 1968. THIS TOTEM HAS NEVER BEEN IN AUCTION.
A TOTEM "GOSPEL OAK". BR(M) maroon, curtailed full flange style with four integral holes for wall fixing. A few face chips but a good colour and shine. A very rare totem (only once in Auction) from the ex LNWR station, between Kentish Town and Hampstead Heath, opened as "Kentish Town" in 1860; and renamed in 1867.
