Stein, Vienna, circa 1805 The cherry case stained to simulate a tropical hardwood, perhaps rosewood, the lower case sides with a later gilt metal band running below an inlaid fruitwood line, later brass beading to the perimeter of the lid. Raised on four later square tapered legs. The line inlaid nameboard with later applied gilt decorations flanking a white diamond shaped plaque within a gilt frame inscribed: André Stein d'Augsbourg à Vienne. The six octave keyboard FF-f4 with bone naturals and ebony capped accidentals. Viennese action with three knee levers controlling bassoon and damper combinations. FF-F Bichord, F#-f4 trichord. A spinet shaped transverse grand piano by Crang Hancock, London, 1782 The walnut case with a simple ebony stringing and with cast brass strap lid hinges and cast flap hinges. Raised on a trestle stand with four turned legs. The nameboard of stained maple with boxwood stringing and cross-banded with mahogany. The name batten with an inset boxwood plaque inscribed: Crang Hancock Londini Fecit 1782, Tavistock Street Covent Garden. The five octave keyboard FF/GG-f3 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. The rosewood nameboard with simple brass line inlay, bearing a boxwood plaque Inscribed: Ignace Pleyel & Cie a paris [sic]. Six octave and a half octave keyboard CC-f4 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. English grand action with two pedals, mounted on a lyre, controlling dampers and keyboard shift. Frame with three bars and hitch-plank all of metal. Original internal cover. Inscribed on a boxwood insert on the damper rail: Medaille d'or Exposition de 1827.
