A 1934 MG PA (Q-Type evocation)Reg No. BLC 745Chassis No. PA1366Engine No. 1633AP.Green.Supercharged 874 cc engine. Q-type replacement 2 seater body. Pre-select gearbox. Racing style instrumentation. Twin fuel tanks.MG produced many new sporting cars throughout the 1930’s and used racing versions of many types to improve the quality and reliability of their road going versions, on many occasions, success on the track also helped sales of their regular products.The MG PA was built between 1934 and 1936 and utilised an updated version of the Wolseley Motors-designed and made overhead camshaft, crossflow engine, used in the 1928 Morris Minor and previously fitted in the J-type Midget of 1932 to 1934.The engine used was of 874cc capacity.MG built 8 Q-type racing cars in 1934 which used a K3 chassis but with narrower N-type axles. The engines were modified PA-type units with revised crankshafts to reduce the capacity to 746cc to allow the cars to compete in 750cc events. These engines were also fitted with superchargers and pre-select gearboxes, power output of these units were stated to be 113bhp at a higher 7200 rpm. Please click film icon above to see video of car running.Further details and information have now been obtained regarding this exceptionally fine restoration and creation of an iconic MG sporting model Q type evocation.The deceased owner / restorer of this car had completed several restoration projects over the years, his previous MG was also a PA type which he purchased in pieces from the well renown MG specialist Barry Bone in 1986, that car, Chassis No. PA1208 was sold for cash and partial exchange for the current MG PA chassis no. PA1366. Unfortunately, we have no record of what condition our sale car was in when acquired but we do have a file detailing the suppliers used and their invoices for work or services provided. A summary of these items accompanies this catalogue entry (final image). The total expenditure recorded exceeds £32,500.Along with the invoices on file, there is a Workshop manual, an Instruction Book for the MG Midget 1934 to 1945, Service parts list for the PA & PB Midget, Suppliers catalogues and Drawings made by the owner for the bespoke manufacture of several parts. A copy of the 2014 Triple "M" Register booklet (issue 20.0) in which this car is recorded.

With likely additional staining that is not so apparent but adds to rather subdued tone of the work. No evidence of cockling. Not examined out of frame.
A Charles II West Country Silver Trefid Spoon, Probably by Richard Hamlin, Taunton, Dated 1683 the back of the trefid terminal prick engraved with initials 'W*E' over 'W*T' and with the date '1683' between19cm long, 17dwt, 26grRichard Hamlin is recorded as an important spoonmaker who was also known to have made the church plate for both the parishes of Otterhampton and Stocklynch Ottersey (T. Kent, West Country Silver Spoons and Their Makers 1550-1750, London, 1992, p. 96-97). He would seem to have used different marks, including the distinctive RH in a shield and above two pellets and an annulet as on the present spoon (op. cit. p. 96, no. M.60).Marked on back of handle with maker's mark RH twice. There is some minor wear to the marks. There is some overall surface scratching and wear. The wear is noticeable as a minor softening to the engraving. There is some wear to the edge of the bowl on one side.

It is stamped '18CT' and in our opinion would test as gold. The cluster measures 15.62mm x 15.60mm approximately. The approximate qualities of the diamonds are; colour J/K/L (some tinted), clarity I1/I2/I3. Gross weight 5.4 grams. CR made 24.07.23.
A Diamond Five Stone Ringthe graduated old cut diamonds in white rubbed over settings, to a yellow tapered shoulder plain polished shank, total estimated diamond weight 0.65 carat approximately finger size M (approximately, ring clip fitted)The ring is in fair condition, the settings are rubbed and the shank is discoloured. It is stamped '18CT' and in our opinion would test as gold. The approximate qualities of the diamonds are; colour J/K/L, clarity I1/I2/I3. Gross weight 2.2 grams. CR made 03.08.23.
A Turquoise and Diamond Cluster Ringthe oval cabochon turquoise within a stylised border of tapered baguette cut and round brilliant cut diamonds, in yellow claw settings, to a plain polished shank, total estimated diamond weight 0.70 carat approximately finger size KThe ring is in good condition. It is stamped '750' and in our opinion would test as gold. The turquoise measures 14.05mm x 11.18mm x 7.53mm approximately. The approximate qualities of the diamonds are; colour K/L/M, clarity SI1/SI2/I1. Gross Weight 9.5 grams. CR made 02.08.23.
