A silver-gilt finger ring with flat-section hoop, stamped octofoils to the shoulders, discoid bezel with incised motif of a bird in flight; sold with one bronze with flat-section hoop, discoid bezel with quincunx of ring-and-dot motifs. 7.36 grams, 19 mm overall, 16.93 mm internal diameter (approximate size British M 1/2, USA 6 1/2, Europe 13.16, Japan 12); 20 mm overall, 17.90 mm internal diameter (approximate size British P, USA 7 1/2, Europe 16.23, Japan 15) (3/4). From an old English collection. [2] Fine condition.
100-20 BC. Obv: broad oak head type head right with large eye, large snake like hair. Rev: horse right with boar above. 1.02 grams. S. -; BMC -; V. -; see M. 280B. This type has been associated with the North Thames group of coins, dating to an early period in British struck coinage. Good fine, irregular flan. Extremely rare.
