The Golden Age of the American Racing Car by Borgeson, 288pp, 1996, discussing the men, machines, tracks and engineering. Also a similar book by A. Bochroch bringing the story more up to date and Broad Track by Dick Wallen, 423pp, 1990, with excellent monochrome images and detailed text. Together with British Cars at Le mans by D. Pascal, 146pp, 1990 and the British Grand Prix by M. Hamilton, and other competition titles, all in good fettle. (8)
The Beaulieu Encyclopaedia of the Automobile. Published in two volumes (Volume 1 A - L and Volume 2 M - Z) in 2000 by The Stationery Office, London. These large tomes were claimed to be 'The most comprehensive book ever written about the world of cars and set to become a must-have for anyone with a love of motoring'. Editor in Chief Nick Georgano, Foreword by Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, each volume 11 x 8¾ inches, profusely illustrated in colour and black-and-white, over 1800 pages in total, and about 1.5 million words of text, giving a detailed background on every make and marque of car ever built. Also, a copy of the (rare) complementary, Encyclopaedia of Coachbuilding, 390pp, 2001 with a foreword by Brian Sewell. Each with a DJ having a little creasing and rubbing, but no splits, otherwise in generally very good condition. (3)

Le M‚canicien Moderne. A two volume set published in Paris, circa 1910. Both quarto volumes with their blush grey and polychrome and gilt decorated covers. Pagination in each book is 232 and 233 (465pp) of French text with highly detailed images and drawings. Also, 10 full-page mechanical coloured folded-flap cut-a-ways of a Motor-Car, Steam Boiler, Steam Engine, Dynamo with 3 phase current, Locomotive, Gas Engines and Diesel and Oil Otto Engines, each with an explanatory index, unusually these are in very good condition. The covers a little soiled and the spines worn, otherwise a delight. (2)

A full and detailed history of the motor-car development in France, with good photographs. Originally a soft-bound 8vo with a Peter Helck colour illustration on the front cover, this rare book has been hardbound in light green cloth, with a gilt title to the spine. The original cover insitu, and in very good order. French text. (1)

Together with the 'Opening of the New Factory by Lord Montagu', July 1908, a petit programme with Montagu's speech inserted, and other documents. All in good, clean condition. (8)
Cars and Motor-Cycles. A three-volume quarto hardbound set of the Subscribers' Edition of the work described as 'A complete guide and valuable work of reference for all motorists and motor-cyclists', edited by Lord Montagu of Beaulieu and M. Bourdon, published by New Era, London, 1928. Blue cloth covers (rubbed) with gilt lettering/banding to the spines, approximately 1300p, colour frontispiece to each volume plus other full-page monochrome and colour plates and numerous text figures and photographic illustrations. The volumes a little weak internally and with some signs of wear. The lot also includes a complete set of the 34 weekly parts of The Motoring Encyclopedia, Amalgamated Press, 1932/33; a very good copy in dust jacket of The Engines were Rolls-Royce by Ronald W.
