Two similar Royal Worcester 1970's porcelain ginger jars and covers, both decorated on a mossy background with fruits, berries and foliage, one signed and hand painted by Freeman, the other by M Johnson. Black printed marks to the base, shape no.s 2826. Heights 18cm approx. (2)(B.P. 21% + VAT) No obvious damage. Rather grubby inside.
A pair of George III style carved gilt wood tables / torchere stands In the manner of Thomas Johnson in the rococo taste, the rectangular tops with lobed edges on pierced leafy bough supports with perching ho-ho birds; on rockwork bases and tripod acanthus carved cabriole legs and scroll feet, each 32cm wide, 25cm deep, 83cm high. (2) Based on an original 18th century example, illustrated in 18th century English Furniture. The Norman Adams Collection, Woodbridge, 1994, pp. 312-313 and exhibited at the Victoria & Albert Museum in 1962. This design relates to a pattern published in Thomas Johnson's Collection of Designs, 1758 (pl. 19) which in turn is derived from M. Lock & H. Copland's Chinoiserie design in their New Book of Ornaments, 1752, pl. 2.

A FINE INDIAN ARMY HORSE'S HEAD PRESENTATION SWORD TO THE MADRAS ARTILLERY, 70.5cm sharply curved blade etched with diminishing crescents, finely chiselled gilt horse's head stirrup hilt, the knuckle guard formed from entwined serpents, their heads forming the down turned quillon, gilt mounted red velvet covered wooden scabbard decorated with borders of scrolling foliage, faceted suspension rings passing through acanthus bud mounts, the throat with maker's panel P. Augier and presentation inscription From the Non-Commissioned Officer's and Matrosses of Captain M H Court's Company of Madras Artillery employed at the capture of Amboyna & its dependencies in the year 1810 to Captain Court as a small testimony of the respect & admiration they have for him. In February 1810 a force of three ships carrying detachments of the Madras Artillery and the Madras European Regiment attacked the Dutch Spice Island of Amboyna. Captain Major Court commanded the shore party which also included Marines and some Seamen totalling 401 men in all. After the successful capture of Amboyna the remaining major Spice Islands surrendered without bloodshed or resistance.
